Job Title: Electrical Engineering Specialist
Job Description
The Electrical Engineering Specialist provides technical expertise and support to project managers throughout the full lifecycle of capital growth projects, with a primary focus on the design, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning of crude and water pipeline systems and pump stations. This role ensures that electrical, instrumentation, and control systems are designed and implemented safely, efficiently, and in alignment with industry standards, project budgets, and schedules.
Responsibilities
- Support project managers throughout all phases of capital growth projects, from initial design through commissioning for crude and water pipelines and pump stations.
- Develop, review, and refine electrical designs for pipeline facilities, including low- and medium-voltage distribution systems.
- Provide technical guidance on the selection, specification, and procurement of electrical, instrumentation, and control equipment for pipeline and pump station projects.
- Support construction and installation activities by reviewing plans, answering technical questions, and helping resolve field issues in a timely manner.
- Assist with commissioning and start-up of electrical, instrumentation, and control systems to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant operation.
- Troubleshoot electrical and control system issues in pipeline facilities, identifying root causes and recommending effective corrective actions.
- Interpret and work from engineering drawings, P&IDs, and electrical schematics to support design, construction, and maintenance activities.
- Apply relevant industry standards and codes, including NEC, NFPA 70E, and low- and medium-voltage guidelines, to ensure safe and compliant designs.
- Use AutoCAD, electrical modeling tools, and control system software to develop and update drawings, models, and documentation.
- Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to ensure electrical systems support safe, reliable, and efficient facility operations.
- Coordinate with utility companies to understand and define power load requirements and related processes for new and existing facilities.
- Maintain strong focus on safety, operational reliability, budget adherence, and schedule performance across all assigned projects.
- Prepare and maintain project documentation, including reports, specifications, and schedules using standard office and project management software.
- Support continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance system design, reliability, and maintainability in pipeline environments.
Essential Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 6 years of relevant work experience in electrical, instrumentation, or control systems roles.
- 10 or more years of operations or maintenance experience in pipeline facilities or related industrial environments.
- Knowledge of industry safety practices and applicable electrical codes and standards.
- Strong personal commitment to safety and safe work practices.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and MS Project.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, and electrical schematics.
- Demonstrated experience applying industry standards such as NEC and NFPA 70E, including
- Understanding of utility company processes related to power load requirements.
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting electrical and control systems in pipeline or similar industrial environments.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Broad knowledge of electrical, instrumentation, and control systems.
- 3-5 years of experience in pipeline, midstream, or refinery environments.
- Expertise with instrumentation, controls, and electrical systems, including PLCs, SCADA, VFDs, motors, analyzers, and low- and medium-voltage distribution.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD for creating and modifying electrical drawings.
- Experience with electrical modeling tools and control system software.
- Background in electrical engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Experience working with pipeline systems and P&ID documentation.
- Strong focus on operations, budget control, and schedule performance.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional project, operations, and maintenance teams.
