Dynamometer Test Technician – Research Innovation Lab, Dearborn, MIWe are hiring a Dynamometer Test Technician to work at our Research Innovation Lab in Dearborn, MI. The role requires a passion for automotive and an enthusiasm to learn automotive testing from a leader in the industry.Job DetailsPrimary objectives of the electric dynamometer test technician are to conduct engine durability and performance testing. Testing involves initial setup of engine and testing equipment, collection of data, performing periodic checks during the test, and engine teardown post‑test.Fabricate basic fixtures.Interface with Technologists, Product Engineers, and Supervisors on updates/new test procedures, equipment and methods.Verify the calibration and maintenance of test equipment and test systems.Install engines on dynamometer, hook up instrumentation, hook up exhaust, diagnose / troubleshoot problems with engine or data equipment, conduct tests, change engine parts (setup or teardown), and remove engine and instrumentation.Minimum Education, Experience, Training, and /or Skill RequirementsHigh School Diploma.Good interpersonal, computer, oral and written skills.Engine experience, working knowledge of a 4‑stroke engine (Gas or Diesel) and ability to identify engine parts and how they work.Understand engine designs, engine part changes, follow torque specs.General hand‑tool experience for engine build and part changes.Detail‑oriented and organized (verbal and written).Follow directions from multiple sources.Good housekeeping of work area and equipment.Valid driver's license.Preferred QualificationsWorking towards an associate degree in Automotive Technology or related field.Teardown/Build experience of gasoline and diesel engines.Experience in engines/powertrain dynamometer testing or other similar testing techniques.Troubleshooting skills (engine/facility).ASE certification or working towards them.Fabrication skills: drill press, bandsaws, welding, etc.Understanding of vehicle exhaust systems.Essential Functions of the PositionUnusual or Special Physical Requirements of PositionLifting: Up to 50 lbs (35% of time).Crawling: 20% of time.Special clothing/equipment: Safety glasses, slip‑resistant hardened‑toe shoes, gloves, long pants, short‑sleeved shirts (100% of time).Physical activities: Sitting (50%), Standing (50%), Bending (25%), Stooping (25%). Job requires manual labor.High noise level: Engine high noise level while running in the test cell; employees are not exposed to engine speeds over idle while in the cell.Description of Work EnvironmentLocation: Inside (100%).Extreme temperatures: Hot temperatures generated by engines; cold start tests can reach -20°F (50% of time).Hazardous conditions: Rotating equipment, engines, hot exhaust, trip hazards (100%).Equipment and Machines Involved in Work TasksOffice equipment: Computers, analyzers (70% of time).Tools: Basic hand tools, hammer, screwdriver, wrenches, ratchets, sockets, and other related engine repair tools (50% of time).Overhead crane lifts (30% of time).Criticality of AttendanceWork hours: 8 hours per day, Monday‑Friday; may need flexible or weekend shifts.Shift: Day shift 7 am‑3:30 pm; flexible to afternoon shift if workload requires; possibility of rotation to afternoon shift for several months at a time.Attendance importance: Critical.Other Essential FunctionsComplete and pass a pre‑employment drug screen and background check.Demonstrate professional behavior at all times when dealing with customers, management and co‑workers.Maintain clear, concise and accurate communications skills in English, both verbal and written.Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk.Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a professional manner.Dependable personal transportation to work site is required.Compensation DetailsActual compensation may vary based on factors such as job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, internal equity, market data, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and relevant laws.Benefits OverviewOur health and welfare benefits are designed to support you and your priorities.
