GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is seeking a skilled Driller to join our team in Cheyenne, Wyoming. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in shaping the state's transportation infrastructure while working on meaningful projects that keep Wyoming connected.
As a Driller, you will operate drill rigs safely and efficiently to conduct geological and geotechnical investigations that support highway design and engineering. You will lead the daily activities of the drill team, oversee field operations, and ensure that all samples are obtained accurately and on schedule. This position requires a strong understanding of drill rig operations, support equipment, and proper maintenance practices.
With minimal supervision, you will take ownership of the work, provide hands-on instruction to team members, and ensure that tools, equipment, and testing procedures meet the highest safety and performance standards. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in their technical expertise, and wants to make a lasting impact on Wyoming's transportation network.

Bachelors Degree (typically in Construction)
Experience:
0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in Drilling) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Drilling Technician
OR
Education & Experience Substitution:
High School Diploma, PLUS 3-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Drilling) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Drilling Technician

One year of service to WYDOT must be completed, failure to complete this requirement will forfeit the hiring incentive, and funds will be recouped from final pay.
Internal candidates would be required to remain in the position for a minimum of one (1) year from their promotion date.
Employees would only be eligible for one (1) hiring bonus in a 12-month period.
If the employee elects to downgrade through an active recruitment and/or appointment during the twelve (12) month period, they would be required to pay the bonus back.
