Oxford Solutions is working with an established engineering consulting firm seeking a Drafting & Design Group Leader for a contract-to-hire opportunity. This onsite leadership role is ideal for a senior-level drafting professional who can oversee day-to-day design production, coordinate multidisciplinary efforts, and serve as a key point of contact for clients.
Overview
The Drafting & Design Group Leader acts as the single-discipline coordinator for all drafting activities on assigned projects. This individual provides first-line supervision to design and drafting staff, ensures quality and consistency of deliverables, and supports engineers in maintaining the integrity of overall design intent.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise drafting and design personnel within the assigned group
- Distribute workload and manage resources to meet project schedules and budgets
- Coordinate drafting activities with other group leaders and internal departments
- Collaborate closely with engineers and perform basic design functions as needed
- Ensure technical accuracy and adherence to established drafting standards
- Provide guidance, mentoring, and performance feedback to team members
- Monitor project progress and provide timely reporting on budget and schedule status
- Maintain regular communication with clients and vendors
- Support client relationship development and assist with sales and marketing initiatives
- Partner with Lead Engineers on staffing evaluations and resource planning
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree from a trade school or accredited college
- 15–20 years of experience in drafting and design
- Proficiency with at least one CADD platform; 3D design experience preferred
- Strong understanding of engineering design processes and documentation standards
- Demonstrated leadership experience supervising drafting teams
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively across all levels of an organization
- Experience managing client interactions and supporting project delivery objectives
