The Department of Pathology is seeking a Donor Coordinator. Will be responsible for working with medical examiners, tissue recovery specialists, pathologist's assistants, and other Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner (IOSME) employees to facilitate procurement of postmortem human brain samples. Assist with brain removals as directed by IOSME staff. Handles the time sensitive transportation of brains from the IOSME to the University of Iowa. Communicates with patients and donor families to answer questions about brain donation as needed and works closely with collaborators at the Iowa Donor Network. This position is 100% time.

Duties to include:

  • Facilitate donor evaluation, consent, and case triage
  • Support procurement of tissue.
  • Coordinate rapid logistics and donor transport
  • Serve as Institutional Liaison for the Iowa Neuropathology Resource Lab.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, biological sciences, neuroscience, or another related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in a health care or clinical environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Experience with customer service.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet university of Iowa Fleet Safety Program standards.

Highly Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience with tissue procurement or autopsies, especially in the medical examiner setting.
  • Prefer experience handling bereavement scenarios or other intensive medical environments.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a biorepository that collects human samples is desirable.
  • Familiarity with database entry and management.
  • Experience coordinating logistics.
