American Baptist Foundation is seeking a Donor Advisor.

Reporting to the Executive Director/CEO, the Donor Advisor is responsible for identifying, engaging, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding current and prospective planned giving donors. This role partners closely with the Executive Director, Marketing & Communications Director, SYFF Coordinator, and internal stakeholders to help donors achieve their philanthropic goals while advancing American Baptist mission and ministries.

This position requires residency within the Northeastern United States (PA, NJ, NY, MA, CT, RI, NH, ME, VT preferred) and the ability to travel up to 40% across a multi-state region.

Key Responsibilities

Portfolio Management & Donor Engagement

  • Manage a regional portfolio of planned giving donors and prospects, developing individualized cultivation and solicitation strategies.
  • Identify, engage, and solicit planned gifts through meetings, presentations, and tailored follow-up plans.
  • Prepare written proposals, financial illustrations, and supporting documentation aligned with donor philanthropic goals.
  • Track all donor interactions using Bloomerang to support continuity and future donor stewardship.
  • Provide timely responses to donor inquiries and maintain a high standard of customer service.
  • Draft terms for endowments, donor-advised funds, and charitable gift annuities using established templates.
  • Stay knowledgeable about ABF ministries, programs, and financial needs; communicate these effectively to donors.

Partnership & Program Support

With SYFF Coordinator:

  • Invite pastors and congregations to participate in the SYFF program.
  • Support logistics, workshops, wills seminars, and local donor prospecting.
  • Meet with at least five planned giving prospects per SYFF location.

With Controller/Back Office:

  • Provide accurate information for gift documentation, follow up with donors as needed, and ensure stewardship throughout the donor lifecycle.

With Marketing Director:

  • Assist in preparing donor stories, planned giving articles, newsletters, brochures, appeals, and other communications.

Knowledge Development

  • Stay current on tax law, charitable giving regulations, and planned giving strategies.
  • Share updates with colleagues as appropriate.

Additional Duties

  • Participate in goal setting and annual fundraising planning.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director/CEO.

Required Experience:

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in donor development, fundraising, planned giving, or related field.
  • Strong computer skills; experience with donor databases preferred (Bloomerang a plus).
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills; ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated Christian commitment and strong ethical standards.
  • Ability to work sensitively and effectively with older adults.
  • Comfort leading presentations, workshops, and donor conversations online and in person.
  • Must reside in the Northeastern United States and be able to travel 40%.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs., travel frequently, and work for extended periods on a computer and phone.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and move as needed for donor visits and presentations.
