Job Description Summary
The Donor Advising Specialist is part of the collaborative, innovative and dynamic development team raising meaningful and significant financial support for the benefit of students and programs at Del Mar College.
This position will manage a small portfolio of donors and prospective donors including individuals, foundations, and organizations for the purpose of securing and stewarding gifts to the College. This will be accomplished by applying superior relationship-building skills, research skills, mature judgement, strategic thinking tactics, and excellent writing abilities.
The position will work closely and collaboratively with the rest of the development team and be flexible in their work assignments. This position will focus on developing a sustainable revenue stream through college event sponsorships, as well as preparing and submitting grant applications.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from a university or college.
Four (4) years of development, fundraising, or related experience including demonstrated experience working with and building relationships with individuals, foundations and/or corporations.
Two (2) years of sponsorship development and grant writing experience.
Experience setting up new programs and managing projects.
Required Job Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Demonstrated success in designing and implementing new event sponsorship strategies and building grant application processes from inception through submission.
Demonstrated experience working with/building relationships with individual donors and/or clients.
Understanding of major gift fundraising principles and practices, with demonstrated skills in portfolio management and developing successful fundraising strategies to close meaningful and significant gifts while building sustained donor relationships.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
Strong work ethic, attention to detail and the ability to think strategically.
Demonstrated success in acquiring, developing and retaining donor or client relationships resulting in significant support for an organization.
Ability to participate as a team member, working collaboratively across areas as needed.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
Proven track-record of cultivating, requesting, and securing major gifts with a documented record of productivity and experience with donor management software systems.
Development experience within higher education and/or the community college environment.
Three to five (3-5) years of experience in relationship-based fundraising.
