Position Overview

The Naval Research Laboratory (NRL), Ocean Sciences Division (Code 7302), is seeking a Technical Writer / Documentation Specialist I to provide administrative and documentation support. This role supports daily office operations, official correspondence, and organizational coordination within a military research environment.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple administrative and documentation tasks while maintaining professionalism and discretion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform general administrative duties including:
    • Answering telephones and taking messages
    • Receiving, sorting, and routing mail and deliveries
    • Greeting and escorting visitors as required
  • Coordinate and manage conference room scheduling and usage
  • Support meeting logistics, including preparation of materials and coordination of attendees
  • Record, transcribe, and distribute accurate meeting minutes as required
  • Draft, format, and review official correspondence in accordance with:
    • Navy Correspondence Manual
    • Applicable Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of the Navy (DoN) directives
  • Maintain organized records and documentation in compliance with established procedures
  • Provide general administrative and documentation support as assigned
Required Qualifications

  • Public Trust Clearance or Higher Preferred
  • On-Site work Required 
  • Proficiency in general office administration and records management practices
  • Experience supporting staff within a corporate environment or military command
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to:
    • Exercise discretion and sound judgment
    • Work independently with minimal supervision
    • Manage multiple priorities effectively
  • Proficiency with:
    • Microsoft Windows operating systems
    • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Must be eligible for:
    • Common Access Card (CAC) issuance
    • Government IT system access
  • Ability to comply with all applicable:
    • DoD, DoN, and NAMRU-D policies
    • Cybersecurity requirements
    • Operational Security (OPSEC) standards
Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Navy or DoD administrative processes and documentation standards
  • Prior experience supporting research, technical, or scientific organizations
  • Experience preparing formal government correspondence or reports
Compensation: $50,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
