Division Manager

ABOUT WATSON ELECTRICAL CONSTRUCTION

Watson Electrical Construction is a leading provider of electrical contracting services, specializing in delivering high-quality solutions for commercial, industrial, and residential projects. We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Division Manager to join our growing team in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Division Manager is responsible to the District Vice President or District Manager for all functions of management of the assigned division, including but not limited to Marketing, Project Management, Production and Operations. It is their responsibility to assure that the division achieves the aims and goals set for it while operating in accordance with the policies and procedures of the company. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

General Summary: Work will consist of knowledge of installation, alterations, additions and/or repairs of electrical systems, conductors and associated materials and equipment within the commercial, industrial and residential electrical construction industry.

Responsibilities:

Operations

  • Direct the day-to-day operations of the assigned division implementing plans and policies to achieve overall corporate objectives, insuring profitable growth and fulfilling the company's commitment to the community.
  • Management and function of the division.
  • Monitor and control short-term and long-range plans consistent with overall profit and growth objectives, including the division's strategic plan.
  • Provide key management direction to management and supervisory personnel motivating them to function as a cohesive organization.
  • Encourage the development of company spirit exemplifying fairness, creativity, integrity and healthy aggressiveness while producing maximum benefit to the employees, LLC members, customers and community.
  • Interact with other management personnel to foster general information exchange and to maintain a harmonious working relationship with all divisions/departments.
  • Monitor, control, schedule and balance the workload for management personnel.
  • Assure proper training of all management, productive and administrative personnel in the division.
  • Monitor management and designated employees that do not have the appropriate contractor's license.
  • Monitor and take appropriate action to assure that items on the Division Calendar are completed on schedule.
  • Monitor and control, by review, reports designated in General Policies & Operating Procedures, Instructions for Computer Reports.
  • Conduct a weekly (or as otherwise needed) meeting with the entire management team to review information and discuss upcoming workload; conduct individual meetings as necessary.
  • Conduct a monthly meeting of the entire management team for an in-depth discussion of the division's operation.
  • Monitor and control the Company's established policies and procedures in the areas of, but

not limited to:

  • The Division Office Operating Procedures (GPOP).
  • Warehouse procedures.
  • The Quality Assurance Program.
  • The Hazard Communication Program.
  • The Substance Abuse Program.
  • Vehicle usage.
  • Policies concerning suppliers.
  • Safety and Hot Work Program.

Finance

  • Assure preparation of Financial Statement:
  • Monitor and control expense versus budget.
  • Take appropriate action when applied overhead decreases below budget (up to and including removing employees from overhead) taking into consideration potential workload.
  • Review and approve financial statements giving projected year-end profit or loss.
  • Monitor and control finances and expenses in the areas of, but not limited to:
  • Profit or loss of the division.
  • Petty cash.
  • Tool purchases.

Project Management

  • Control and verify accuracy of project management reports on all jobs.

  • Monitor and control the project management function on all jobs.

  • Assure that the job processing function is properly completed on all jobs.

  • Review appropriate reports to assure the profitability of all jobs.

  • Review and approve the Monthly Job Status Updates and Monthly Job Productivity Reports.

  • Assure the accuracy of the division's anticipated hours.

  • Monitor and control the accuracy of explanations to the Post Job Conference Reports.

  • Monitor and control estimating including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Assignment of estimators to specific projects.

  • Assure that the estimate is entered into the Estimate Log.

  • Assure that all paperwork and other procedures are adhered to.

  • Review and approve estimates and design/build projects that within authorized limits.

  • Recommend changes concerning material, labor, and EPAS.

Production

  • Control and verify accuracy of productivity reports.
  • To assure productivity of jobs, monitor and control details in the areas of, but not limited to:
  • Assignment of management and supervisor/foremen to projects.
  • Wage rates, labor and supervision on jobs.
  • Most efficient and economical ways being used to put in jobs.
  • Number of trucks being driven to jobs.
  • Periodic checks to assure workers are starting and quitting work on time.
  • Correction of any unsafe activity on jobs.
  • With Supervisor, discuss and correct problems or potential problems.
  • Coordinate the transfer of workers between divisions.
  • Coordinate the transfer of tools and equipment between divisions.

Marketing

  • Marketing function of the division (public relations and sales).
  • Generate a customer base for the division that includes negotiated work (Business Development).
  • Attend appropriate local contractors' organization meetings.
  • Make contacts with general contractors and residential and commercial developers.
  • Obtain new information on new general contractors and residential and commercial developers.
  • Monitor the electrical construction market in the division's geographical area to identify potential customers and be responsible for initial contact of these customers.

Position Requirements:

Licenses - Current driver's license if required by job conditions; applicable federal, state and local licenses as required by job conditions or by the company.

Certifications - Applicable federal, state and local certifications as required by job conditions or by the company.

Education - High School Graduate, holder of G.E.D., or equivalent Watson training.

Experience - Required or necessary experience and/or training to assure all aspects of position are performed efficiently and productively while operating in accordance with policies and procedures of the company.

Working Conditions:

  • Majority of work is performed in office environment.
  • Visits to job sites require exposure to all elements (heat, cold, rain, snow), depending on time of year and job location.
  • Must be able to utilize construction site sanitary facilities (Porta-Johns).
  • Wear personal protective equipment as required in Safety Handbook.
  • Able to work 40 hours per week, overtime as required, night shifts; work out of town if needed.

  • Speak clearly.
  • Must be able to make transition from employee parking area or street into construction work areas and to gain access to all levels of the building, even if the only means of access is by O.S.H.A. approved site construction ladder, or stairs still under construction but acceptable for use.
  • Repetitive use of arms, hands and fingers.
