Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seek candidates for an Associate or Full Professor position in the non-tenure clinician educator track. Expertise is required in the specific area of Critical Care with a focus on Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care Medicine. The selected candidate will also serve in the role of Division Chief of Cardiac Critical Care Medicine at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Applicants must have an M.D. or equivalent degree . Candidates must be ABP certified/board-eligible and eligible for medical licensure in Pennsylvania. Rank will be commensurate with experience.



Teaching responsibilities may include developing systems for mentoring faculty and staff in the division to promote productive, rewarding careers and academic advancement.



Clinical responsibilities may include the provision of clinical cardiac critical care and medical direction in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. The Division Chief oversees the clinical activities of the Division and coordinates with leaders across the enterprise to optimize clinical operations. The Division supports numerous clinical programs across the Cardiac Center with the CICU capacity of 32 beds with surge capabilities for 40, and a growing average length of stay, reflecting the complexity of patient population.

We are looking for an inspirational and innovative leader to lead one of the highest-profile premier academic pediatric cardiac critical care divisions. The successful candidate will transform the division in pursuit of achieving CHOP’s mission of excellence in clinical care, education, research, and advocacy.



The Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine maintains a robust, well-funded research enterprise, encompassing basic science, translational, clinical, and health services research programs that span all areas of anesthesiology and critical care medicine. Operating within the Department’s matrixed leadership structure, the Division Chief will support the Associate Chair of Research, the Associate Chief of Research, and the Department’s Research Council in advancing the Division’s research and academic missions. The Division Chief will collaborate with these Departmental leaders in developing and fostering collaborative research programs, managing infrastructure to support ongoing research efforts, allocating academic time and resources, and supporting and fostering funded research within the Division and across the Department.



The Division of Cardiac Critical Care Medicine is in a strong phase and currently includes: 23 Attending physicians and two cardiac critical care advanced fellows.



The Division Chief will report directly to the Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine and will work closely with the Physician Practice Director, Cardiac Center Chiefs and Leadership, other Division Chiefs, Associate Chairs, and the Vice Chair.
