These programs and services are designed to guide students successfully through their educational programs. The Nelson County School District includes one high school two middle schools two K-8 schools one alternative school and three elementary schools with a total enrollment of almost 5000 students. A second high school is under construction and will open for the 2012-2013 school term. A Site Based Decision Making Council governs each school. In addition a learning center for preschool age children opened in 2011. The high school is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and schools.
