The School District of West Salem is right next door to La Crosse in the beautiful Coulee Region of Western Wisconsin. Our 3 buildings are within walking distance of each other on an approximate 100-acre campus on the edge of town. Students in grades 4-12 are issued MacBooks or iPads as part of its 1:1 digital learning environment.
The School District of West Salem is seeking a Long Term Substitute School Nurse to lead our health team and support students district-wide. Essential responsibilities include:
- Comfortable working with students from ages 3-21 years;
- Positive, effective collaboration with students, parents, staff, and other health care providers as necessary;
- Demonstrates effective current health problems, needs, and concerns of students to their parents and appropriate school faculty and staff;
- Displays excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Creates an environment that leads to a positive student care experience by evaluating, planning, and implementing effective care plans within the guidelines of the standards of school nursing care;
- Participates as an active member of the Pupil Services team in each of our three buildings;
- Serves as a member of IEP teams when necessary;
- Displays a strong understanding of school nurse responsibilities including medication management, development of school health plans, and health assistant training;
- Is comfortable with diabetes management, seizure management, tube feeding, catheterization and training others on these procedures.
- Able to manage health emergencies in a calm manner;
- Uses knowledge, skills, clinical experience, and critical thinking to meet the healthcare needs of students and faculty and render first aid to seriously injured or ill students;
- Administers medications and treatments to students as approved by school policy;
- Maintains and reviews student Health Office electronic profile in Skyward and other internal records systems;
- Provides professional development for staff when needed;
- Leads and coordinates health care between the two health aides and school nurse for optimum services throughout the district;
- Maintains confidentiality and privacy around medical information for all students, faculty, parents, and students;
Qualifications preferred:
- Bachelor''s Degree in Nursing
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Wisconsin
- Basic Emergency Care Course
- Current CPR/AED certification
- Wisconsin Dept. of Public Instruction (DPI) Nurse or ability to obtain this license
