Minimum Qualifications:

  • BA degree; MA or equivalent degree in School Administration or related field preferred
  • NMPED Level Two Teacher License, Level Three-A-NM Instructional Leader License preferred
  • Level Three-B-NM Administrative License, preferred
  • Prior mathematics teaching experience and instructional coaching experience
  • Prior Instructional Coaching preferred
  • Strong knowledge and background in math

Skills/Aptitudes:

Strong knowledge and background in mathematics; Leadership experience in curriculum/professional development; Strong communication, facilitation, collaboration, and training/presentation skills; Understanding of CCSS as well as vertical articulation process and professional learning communities;

Evidence of data-driven decision-making skills; Good organizational ability; good written and oral communication skills; ability to maintain high level of professionalism and confidentiality regarding students, staff, parents, and school matters.

Position Summary

The District Mathematics Coach and Coordinator provides district-level leadership for implementation of the district’s strategic mathematics priorities. Supports consistent use of High-Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM), math-focused coaching and professional learning, data-driven Professional Learning Community (PLC) cycles, and targeted acceleration, intervention, and tutoring supports, including supports designed to improve student outcomes.

The position supports implementation integrity through coaching, monitoring, evidence collection, and continuous improvement processes, including use of monthly implementation monitoring reports, PLC work products, and instructional support artifacts as evidence sources for progress monitoring.

High-Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM) and Layer 1 Math Instructional Focus

  • Lead implementation and continuous improvement of consistent, standards-aligned use of High-Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM).
  • Support schools and teachers in implementing HQIM with fidelity and integrity through coaching, modeling, monitoring, and technical assistance.
  • Utilize monthly implementation monitoring reports to assess fidelity and support continuous improvement.
  • Develop and support structures that strengthen coherent implementation of instructional priorities across grade spans.

Math-Focused Coaching and Professional Learning

  • Provide math-focused coaching, modeling, and professional learning aligned to district High-Quality Instructional Materials and instructional priorities.
  • Design and facilitate professional learning that strengthens instructional rigor, mathematics discourse, differentiation, and effective use of HQIM.
  • Support teachers and instructional teams through job-embedded coaching cycles and evidence-based instructional support.

Data-Driven PLC Cycles and Instructional Improvement

  • Support and facilitate Professional Learning Community (PLC) cycles that use student data and classroom artifacts to guide instructional decisions.
  • Support schools and teams in analyzing assessment results, student work, and instructional evidence to improve mathematics teaching and learning.
  • Monitor PLC agendas and work products as evidence sources supporting continuous improvement and implementation integrity.

Targeted Supports, Acceleration, and Intervention

  • Support implementation of targeted mathematics supports, including acceleration, intervention blocks, and tutoring.
  • Assist in strengthening supports designed to improve outcomes for all student groups.
  • Monitor acceleration, intervention, and tutoring work products and implementation evidence to inform recommendations and support effectiveness.

Curriculum Leadership and Program Coordination

  • Lead coordination, implementation, and continuous improvement of the district’s PreK–12 mathematics program.
  • Support alignment of mathematics curriculum, instruction, assessments, and interventions with New Mexico standards and district priorities.
  • Assist in development, review, and refinement of curriculum guides, pacing resources, instructional frameworks, and support materials.
  • Support vertical alignment of mathematics instruction across grade spans to strengthen coherence and student transitions.
  • Collaborate with school leaders and instructional staff to support consistent implementation of high-quality mathematics instruction.
  • Support selection, implementation, and evaluation of instructional resources and mathematics materials.

Instructional Coaching and Professional Support

  • Provide job-embedded instructional coaching and technical assistance to teachers, instructional staff, and administrators.
  • Model evidence-based mathematics instructional strategies, including practices that promote conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and mathematical reasoning.
  • Support teachers in planning and implementing rigorous, standards-aligned instruction.
  • Provide coaching related to differentiation, intervention, acceleration, and culturally responsive instructional practices.
  • Support classroom observation, feedback, reflective practice, and instructional improvement cycles.
  • Assist schools and teachers in implementing best practices related to mathematics discourse, problem solving, and student engagement.

Professional Development and Capacity Building

  • Design and facilitate professional learning related to mathematics curriculum, pedagogy, assessment, and intervention systems.
  • Support district and school-based professional development aligned with instructional priorities and student needs.
  • Provide training related to evidence-based mathematics practices, data use, and instructional improvement strategies.
  • Support development of teacher capacity through professional learning communities, collaborative planning, and coaching structures.
  • Facilitate collaboration among grade-level and content teams to strengthen instructional consistency.

Assessment and Data-Informed Instruction

  • Support implementation and coordination of district and state mathematics assessments.
  • Assist schools and teachers in analyzing assessment data to inform instructional planning, interventions, and improvement efforts.
  • Support development and use of common assessments, progress monitoring tools, and data protocols.
  • Monitor trends in student achievement data and support targeted instructional responses.
  • Support use of data to identify achievement gaps and strengthen equitable access to support and opportunity.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and recommendations related to mathematics achievement and program effectiveness.

Intervention, Acceleration, and Student Support Systems

  • Support development and implementation of mathematics intervention and acceleration systems across grade levels.
  • Collaborate with schools to strengthen Multi-Layered Systems of Supports (MLSS/MTSS) related to mathematics instruction and intervention.
  • Support teachers in identifying student learning needs and implementing targeted supports.
  • Assist in strengthening systems that promote access to advanced coursework, enrichment, and student achievement growth.
  • Support instructional practices that improve outcomes for diverse learners, including multilingual learners and students with disabilities.

Program Monitoring and Continuous Improvement

  • Monitor implementation of district mathematics initiatives and support continuous improvement processes.
  • Develop and support implementation monitoring tools and fidelity measures related to mathematics initiatives.
  • Analyze qualitative and quantitative evidence to inform recommendations and program improvement.
  • Support school improvement planning related to mathematics achievement goals.
  • Assist district leadership in evaluating effectiveness of mathematics programs, initiatives, and instructional supports.

Collaboration and Leadership

  • Collaborate with administrators, instructional leaders, intervention teams, and district departments to support mathematics improvement efforts.
  • Participate in district leadership teams, curriculum committees, and strategic initiatives as assigned.
  • Support grant initiatives, instructional innovation efforts, and special projects related to mathematics education as assigned.
  • Serve as a district resource for current research, best practices, and emerging trends in mathematics education.

Compliance and Other Duties

  • Support implementation of district mathematics programs in compliance with NMPED requirements and district policies.
  • Maintain records, reports, and documentation related to assigned responsibilities.
