You will operate as a trusted advisor for our key technologies, platforms and capability domains, creating clear and concise communications, code samples, blog posts and other material to share knowledge both inside and outside the organization. You will specialize in a particular subject area, but your input and impact will be sought and expected throughout the organization.In this role, you will work with our Loyalty Division and contribute to the engineering culture across Card Tech+ and all Capital One.If you are ready to provide thought leadership and build engineering excellence across Capital One's engineering teams, come join us in our mission to change banking for good.Key responsibilitiesArchitect software and systems powering loyalty rewards and benefits capabilities.Ensure quality and engineering excellence across systems that process hundreds of thousands of orders per day.Lead by example by spending a significant portion of time writing code and directly contributing to code bases with our engineers.Leverage modern AI coding tools such as Windsurf and Claude Code to augment software product delivery.Work closely with business partners on scoping, defining, and building features for customers, including new product launches.Articulate and evangelize a bold technical vision for your domain.Decompose complex problems into practical and operational solutions.Ensure the quality of technical design and implementation.Serve as an authoritative expert on non‑functional system characteristics, such as performance, scalability, observability, and operability.Continue learning and injecting advanced technical knowledge into our community.Handle several projects simultaneously, balancing time to maximize impact.Act as a role model and mentor within the tech community, coaching and strengthening the technical expertise of our engineering and product teams.Influence senior stakeholders and partners to allocate resources to the most important technical initiatives.Basic QualificationsBachelor's Degree.At least 7 years of experience in software engineering, including system design and regular code contributions.At least 1 year of experience using generative AI coding tools to enhance software development practices.At least 7 years of experience in Back End technologies (Go, Java, Python, database design, etc.).At least 7 years of experience in Web technologies (JavaScript, TypeScript, SPA frameworks).At least 7 years of experience creating and enforcing standards to ensure standardization and simplification of the overall platform.At least 7 years of experience leveraging modern cloud computing platforms effectively and efficiently (e.g., AWS).At least 7 years of experience designing scalable microservice architectures that operate at scale in a complex environment.Preferred QualificationsBachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science or a related field.At least 2 years of experience using generative AI coding tools to enhance software development practices.10+ years of professional experience coding in commonly used languages like Java, Python, Go, JavaScript/TypeScript, etc.8+ years of professional experience in the full lifecycle of system development, from conception through architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, and production support.3+ years of experience with public or private cloud technologies.8+ years of experience with networking (BGP, Wi‑Fi, SD‑WAN, cloud networking and data center networking).Capital One will consider sponsoring a new qualified applicant for employment authorization for this position.Chicago, IL: $244,700 - $279,200 for Distinguished EngineerMcLean, VA: $269,100 - $307,200 for Distinguished EngineerNew York, NY: $293,600 - $335,100 for Distinguished EngineerRichmond, VA: $244,700 - $279,200 for Distinguished EngineerCapital One offers a comprehensive, competitive, and inclusive set of health, financial, and other benefits that support your total well‑being.
