Reports To: Culinary Services Director

Summary: The Dishwasher performs a variety of food service functions in maintaining clean and sanitary conditions of food services, facilities, and equipment. S(he) is responsible for the removal of all garbage, leaving machinery empty, clean and dry and floors clean after each meal. All responsibilities will be conducted in a manner that is consistent with Maplewood Senior Living philosophy.

Essential Functions: 

  • Follows the posted work schedule and arrives on time and in appropriate work attire.
  • Responsible for maintaining the kitchen and other assigned area in a sanitary manner
  • Responsible for the proper washing of china, flatware, glassware, and other kitchen equipment including machine rinse pressure and water temperatures
  • Establish and maintain constructive working relationships with coworkers and residents
  • Must be familiar with food handling procedures and regulations
  • Must know how to operate kitchen appliances such as the dishwasher, garbage disposal, microwave, coffee maker and ice machine
  • May be required to help with food preparation, inventory, maintenance as well food deliveries and shelve stock

 

Compliance & Safety 

  • Follows emergency procedures
  • Understands the safety practices and procedures.
  • Reports on the job injuries to the supervisor before the end of the work shift on the day the injury occurs

 

Communication 

  • Communicates effectively with supervisor and other staff
  • Advise supervisor and appropriate manager in any changes in physical and mental health of resident immediately.
  • Maintains acceptable attendance record, notifies supervisor if late or unable to work in accordance with personnel policies and follows work schedule

 

Education/Experience/Licensure/Certification

  • Some kitchen experience is desirable
  • Basic knife skills required
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language

 

Physical Requirements

  • Physically able to bend and reach.
  • Able to lift 50 pounds
  • Stands and walks short distances most of the day
  • Ability to work in a hot/humid environment for extended amounts of time
  • Is exposed to sudden temperature changes when entering freezer and/or refrigerator
  • Is subject to burns from hot foods or falls on slippery floors if caution is not used when working

 

Miscellaneous 

  • Required to work weekends and holidays as assigned
  • May be required to work on shifts other than the one for which hired
  • May be required to work extended hours up to 16 hours per day
  • Subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc. including HIV, AIDS and Hepatitis B & C viruses
  • Could be subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents due to mental status
  • In good physical and emotional health and free of communicable diseases
