The Discovery Assistant is responsible for providing support to high school students (ages 15-21) enrolled in the Transition to Work Summer Program. During the four-week summer program, students will complete job exploration sessions at local businesses in order to identify future employment goals.

Summer Job Opening:

  • Part-time, 20-25 hours / week, Monday to Friday, 1st shift, 9am – 2pm
  • 4-week program runs in July 
  • Base location is the West Central School, 1481 W Town St, Columbus, OH 43223
  • $16.00 / hour

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Complete all required Discovery Assistant Training.
  • Support students by providing supervision and personal care as outlined in the student's Individual Specific Plan.
  • Work with Discovery Specialists to provide job skills, social skills, and community accessibility instruction.
  • Provide students with transportation to and from community job exploration sessions in an agency van.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Minimum of 1-year experience engaging with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Attend paid orientation 
  • First Aid/CPR and Med-Passer Certification – Free training provided
  • Pass criminal background check and drug screen
  • Ability to lift/lower 50 to 100 lbs. to assist students with transfers, etc. as needed
