Job Title: Disaster Response Intake Specialist

Location: Colorado Custer County (Travel Required)
Job Type: Temporary 2 Weeks project

Rate: $25 per hour

Position Summary

The Intake Specialist serves as a first point of contact for individuals and families affected by disasters and emergencies. This role is responsible for gathering client information, providing support and guidance, coordinating services, and ensuring accurate documentation during emergency response and recovery operations. The ideal candidate is compassionate, adaptable, and able to remain calm and professional in fast-paced, high-pressure environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct intake interviews and collect accurate client information.
  • Assist disaster survivors with accessing available resources, services, and shelter support.
  • Provide exceptional customer service while responding to inquiries in person, by phone, or electronically.
  • Maintain accurate records and enter data into designated systems.
  • Coordinate with emergency response teams, community partners, and service providers.
  • Support shelter operations and disaster recovery efforts as assigned.
  • Ensure confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive information.
  • Follow organizational policies, procedures, and emergency response protocols.
  • Assist with special projects and operational tasks during emergency activations.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Strong communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and solution-oriented during emergencies.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Basic computer skills, including data entry and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and operational needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in customer service, call center operations, emergency response, disaster relief, shelter operations, healthcare, social services, logistics, or related fields.
  • Experience working directly with diverse populations and communities.
  • Bilingual candidates (English/Spanish) are strongly preferred.

Physical & Travel Requirements

  • Ability to work in temporary shelters, community centers, emergency facilities, and field environments.
  • Willingness to travel throughout Colorado based on operational requirements.
  • Ability to work extended hours during emergency response operations.

Work Schedule

This position supports emergency disaster response and recovery operations and requires scheduling flexibility, including:

  • Day, evening, overnight, and rotating shifts
  • Weekends and holidays
  • Extended hours during emergency activations
  • Multiple consecutive deployment days as operational needs require
