You join a community that respects you both at work and in your personal life.Job OverviewAs a Community Disaster Program Manager, you will ensure effective collaboration with Volunteer Services. You will identify, mobilize, and engage partners throughout assigned geographic areas, determine current readiness resources, facilities, supplies, local vendors, and strategies for addressing gaps. You will work with volunteers to ensure that the communities you serve are ready to respond to disasters.Regional disaster employees are required to deploy to disaster relief operations outside of their region at least once a year. Deployments contribute to skill building, career development, and exposure to different types of disasters. Employees must meet all training and physical capacity requirements for deployment.Key ResponsibilitiesEmpower Volunteers: Lead and support a diverse volunteer team responsible for implementing volunteer‑led disaster cycle services programming throughout the assigned geographic area or functional activities throughout the region (mass care, response, community preparedness, recovery, planning, and readiness).Lead the Program: Implement either disaster cycle services activities within the assigned geographic area or specific functional activities within the region.Mission Capacity Building: Develop and support disaster volunteers who are the primary workforce and representative of the communities they serve, both culturally and linguistically. Cultivate and develop Disaster Leadership Volunteers, including volunteer partners, to meet specific responsibilities in disaster readiness, preparedness, response, and recovery.Engage Community: Lead and coordinate efforts in the assigned geographic area to prepare and mobilize communities and engage partners with specific functional expertise and assets to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters and emergencies.Manage in a Matrix: Build relationships and collaborate in a matrix management environment with internal partners, including employees and volunteers.Know Your Communities: Act as the Red Cross disaster subject‑matter expert within the assigned geographic area, maximizing presence and community engagement. Prospect and partner with organizations and leaders supporting frontline communities and community resiliency before, during, and after disasters.Ready to Respond: Initiate and coordinate disaster relief operations in the assigned geographic area or functional activities in the region in alignment with the Disaster Cycle Services Concept of Operations. Identify, build trust in, and increase access to disaster services in diverse, historically underserved communities. Build relationships and partnerships with trusted and diverse organizations within assigned priority communities to extend the reach and trust of the Red Cross.Minimum QualificationsEducation: Bachelor's degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.Experience: Minimum five years of related experience building, mobilizing, leading, and developing volunteer teams to execute a social services program.A valid driver's license and a clean motor vehicle record.Required Skills and AbilitiesExcellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.Demonstrated analytical and decision‑making skills to interpret program trends, results, formulate recommendations, and develop creative processes for continuous program or service improvements.Proven record of collaboration with diverse groups and individuals representing all demographics of the community, managing multiple priorities, facilitating, problem‑solving, marketing, leadership, and partnership management.Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.Ability to work outside of regular duty hours, including nights and weekends.Residency RequirementsChapter‑based positions: Geographic Community Disaster employees are expected to work daily in their assigned geographic area to engage and mobilize communities and support volunteers.Regional positions: Regional leadership and functional employees are expected to work daily within the region's geographic area to provide leadership and functional support, engage and mobilize communities, and support volunteers.Physical RequirementsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The work environment will consist of moderate noise (i.e., business office with computers, phones, and printers, light traffic).
