You join a community that respects who you are away from work as much as what you do.Job OverviewAs a Community Disaster Program Manager, you will ensure effective collaboration with Volunteer Services, identify and mobilize partners in all communities within your geographic area, and determine readiness resources, facilities, supplies, local vendors, and strategies for addressing gaps. You will work with volunteers to ensure that the communities you serve are ready to respond to disasters.Regional disaster employees are required to deploy to disaster relief operations outside of their region at least once a year. Deployments contribute to skill building, career development, and exposure to different types of disasters. Employees must meet all training and physical capacity requirements for deployment.Key ResponsibilitiesEmpower Volunteers: Lead and support a diverse volunteer team responsible for implementing volunteer‑led disaster cycle services programming across the assigned geographic area, including mass care, response, community preparedness, recovery, planning, and readiness.Lead the Program: Implement disaster cycle services activities or specific functional activities within the region.Mission Capacity Building: Develop and support disaster volunteers, cultivate and develop Disaster Leadership Volunteers, and ensure representation of the communities they serve.Engage Community: Lead and coordinate efforts to prepare and mobilize communities and partner with organizations that possess specific functional expertise to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters.Manage in a Matrix: Build relationships and collaborate within a matrix management environment with internal partners, including employees and volunteers.Know Your Communities: Act as the Red Cross disaster subject‑matter expert within the assigned area, maximizing Red Cross presence and community engagement and mobilization.Ready to Respond: Initiate and coordinate disaster relief operations in the assigned geographic area or functional activities in the region in alignment with the Disaster Cycle Services Concept of Operations.Diverse Community: Identify, build trust in, and increase access to disaster services in historically underserved communities, building relationships and partnerships with trusted organizations.Minimum QualificationsEducation: Bachelor's degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.Experience: Minimum 5 years of related experience building, mobilizing, leading, and developing volunteer teams to execute a social services program.A Valid Driver's License and a clean MVR.Required Skills and AbilitiesExcellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.Demonstrated analytical and decision‑making skills to interpret program trends, formulate recommendations, and develop creative processes for continuous improvement.Proven record of collaboration with diverse groups and individuals representing all community demographics, managing multiple priorities, facilitation, problem‑solving, marketing, leadership, and partnership management.Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).Ability to work outside regular duty hours, including nights and weekends.Residency RequirementsChapter‑based positions: Geographic Community Disaster employees must work daily in their assigned geographic area to engage and mobilize communities and support volunteers.Regional positions: Regional leadership and functional employees must work daily within their region's geographic area to provide leadership, functional support, engage and mobilize communities, and support volunteers.Physical RequirementsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Employees are regularly required to sit, use hands, talk, and hear; frequently reach with hands and arms; occasionally stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and frequently lift or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
