POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is apart of the Professional Development Fellowship program focused on providing access to a entry level career pathway at Duquesne University. This position will be housed in the disability services department and focus on a variety of items such as mentorship, guidance, event planning and attendance and general duties within our student life division.

This position operates on a year-to-year contract basis with the maximum time of two years.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides mentorship to students on campus.

Provides ongoing support to students with disabilities, particularly those transitioning from high school to college.

Helps students develop self-advocacy, time management, and communication skills related to accommodation use.

Refers students to campus resources (e.g., counseling services, tutoring, advising, adaptive technology).

Collaborates with campus partners such as:

Academic advising;

Residence life/housing;

Faculty;

Counseling and health services;

Coordinates exam accommodations, including scheduling, proctoring logistics, and secure handling of exams.

Supports students in accessing assistive technology and alternative formats (e.g., accessible PDFs, captions).

Learns and assists with disability services software platforms (e.g., Accommodate).

Maintains accurate and confidential student records in accordance with FERPA, ADA, and institutional policies.

Documents student interactions, accommodation decisions, and service outcomes.

Follow established procedures to ensure consistency and legal compliance.

Support disability awareness initiatives and access-related programming.

Assist with presentations or trainings for:

Faculty and staff;

Student employees;

Orientation or transition programs;

Stay informed about best practices, legal updates, and emerging trends in postsecondary disability access.

Provide general office support, including answering emails, managing appointments, and assisting with departmental projects.

Completes other duties as assigned.
