Job Summary and Qualifications

Position Summary:

The patient care director will have operational responsibility and accountability for care delivery within their business unit and hospital. Provide leadership for improving patient care, planning, staff performance, systems improvements, and other programs that support the culture of HCA HealthONE Presbyterian/St. Luke’s and Rocky Mountain Children’s, as well as HealthONE’s strategic objectives.

The director will work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to enhance and drive an integrated model of person-centered care. Provide leadership and coordination of clinical practice standards and ensure clinical care is provided according to quality, licensing, and accreditation standards. Supports an environment of continuous improvement, promoting evidence-based practice and patient care delivery. Measures actual budgetary performance and drives systematic improvement in collaboration with ACNO. May also provide direct patient care when needed.

The scope and complexity of the director position will vary based on the number of beds, visits, and procedures in the department, the acuity of patients, FTEs supervised, the number of different medical staff services involved, and the activity level of admissions, discharges, and transfers per day. The director performs delegated duties, assigned by the ACNO or CNO, which are consistent with her/his scope of nursing practice and competence.

II. Position Requirements:

A. Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current licensure in the State of Colorado as a Registered Nurse or current active multistate Registered Nurse license. Current BLS certification.

B. Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN required. MSN, or other healthcare-related advanced degree, e.g., MBA, or MHA is preferred.

C. Experience: At least five years of acute care/specialty nursing is desirable in the area of specialty. At least three years of previous experience in a charge/supervisory or management position.

D. Special Qualifications: Demonstrates good organizational skills. Provides safe and appropriate care within the Standards of Nursing Practice at HCA HealthONE PSL/RMC. Demonstrates good critical thinking skills. Displays leadership and problem-solving skills. Communicates positively and professionally with all internal and external customers. Able to articulate and demonstrate knowledge of nursing theory and practice.
