Western Kentucky University, a member of Conference USA and a Football Bowl Subdivision NCAA member institution, seeks to hire an individual for the position of TOPCARE Director. This is a 12-month, full-time position. This position will report directly to the Senior Executive Director of Sports Medicine & Student-Athlete Welfare. Applicants must have a commitment to and responsibility for adhering to all rules and regulations of WKU, Conference USA and the NCAA.

The TOPCARE Director will contribute to the TOPCARE mission of "Supporting the whole Student-Athlete in Health & Welfare by utilizing an interdisciplinary team that includes providing care & resources whose main concern is for their overall well-being." The TOPCARE Director will serve as the primary contact in serving WKU Student-Athletes & Staff through clinical sport psychology services, wellness educational programming, outreach to the WKU Athletics community, and regular consultation and collaboration with WKU Sports Medicine & Athletic Training.

Clinical Duties (60%):

  • Supervise the day-to-day management and functioning of behavioral health services to the WKU Athletics community;
  • Provide evidence-based treatments for a wide array of mental and behavioral health concerns;
  • Complete intake evaluations, treatment planning, and individual psychotherapy for WKU student athletes;
  • Create and provide group therapy services based on student athletes needs and interests;
  • Conduct mental health pre-sport participation, and surveillance screenings for student athletes;
  • Conduct indicated psychological evaluations to inform clinical treatment planning;
  • Coordinate drug and alcohol assessment and counseling for the Athletic Department in accordance with WKU Athletics department policy;
  • Complete psychoeducational evaluations (ADHD/Learning Disability) to support referrals for psychopharmacological interventions and/or academic classroom modifications;
  • Complete and supervise Learning Disability screenings on incoming student athletes in conjunction with community partners (WKU Psychology Department, WKU CTC);
  • Teach mental performance skills to individuals and teams;
  • Collaboration and Liaison/Coordination of Care with WKU Sports Medicine Physicians and Team Athletic Trainers and other community healthcare partners;
  • Provide consultation regarding mental health crisis interventions and risk assessments;

Administrative & Outreach Duties (40%):

  • Serves as a key stakeholder for planning and development of wellness initiatives related to WKU student athletes.
  • Facilitate and provide WKU Athletics with department-wide wellness education and prevention-related content;
  • Attend WKU Athletics events such as team practices, events, and other activities to raise awareness and visibility of TOPCARE;
  • Create and manage content for the "WKU TOPCARE" Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram social media accounts;
  • Create and manage content for "WKU TOPCARE TIPS" weekly newsletter to the WKU Athletics community;
  • Consultation with WKU Athletics stakeholders (e.g., coaches, administration) regarding the wellness needs of the WKU Athletics community;
  • Collaboration with WKU SAAC to facilitate psychoeducational classes related to student athlete wellness;
  • Complete clinical documentation and maintain health records and protected health information (PHI);
  • Compile & report data regarding utilization of WKU TOPCARE services;
  • Attend department staff meetings;
  • Demonstrate competency in working with diverse groups and support a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Job Requirements:

  • Master''s Degree In Psychology
  • Kentucky licensure eligible

Additional Information:

Salary Range: $50,000 -$60,000
