Major/Essential Functions

During the Fall, Spring, and Summer academic semesters, the instructor will dedicate approximately 20 hours per week to teaching undergraduate or graduate courses within the CFAS Department and approximately 20 hours per week supporting the clinical teaching and administrative functions of the Texas Tech University Family Therapy Clinic (FTC). Responsibilities may include:

  • Teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in the Couple, Marriage, and Family Therapy Program and related CFAS programs.
  • Supporting clinical training and supervision activities for graduate student therapists.
  • Assisting with practicum and internship coordination activities, including communication with placement sites, our clinical communities of interest, and tracking required documentation.
  • Ensure that the program’s practice component is in compliance with state, provincial, and national laws and practice requirements.
  • Supporting daily clinic operations, clinic policies and procedures, and maintenance of professional and ethical standards of care.
  • Serving as a point of contact for clients and community members seeking services through the FTC.
  • Assisting with clinic scheduling systems, clinical documentation procedures, and electronic patient management systems.
  • Supporting clinic data collection, outcome monitoring, and reporting procedures used for program evaluation, accreditation, and research support.
  • Collaborating with faculty, staff, and graduate assistants to support clinic operations and student development.
  • Participating in program governance related to clinical training.
  • Assisting with community outreach, promotional activities, and relationship-building efforts with referral sources and community partners.
  • Supporting clinic-related events, trainings, and professional development activities.

May need to work on evenings when practicum class is offered each semester. May need to work outside normal working hours (8:00 - 5:00) for clinic duties.

  • Experience coordinating practicum, internship, or clinical placement activities.
  • Experience supporting COAMFTE-accredited training programs.
  • Experience writing reports and tracking data needed for clinical grants, contracts, accreditation, or outcome assessment.
  • Experience supporting clinic outcome monitoring, assessment procedures, or program evaluation activities.
  • Experience supervising graduate assistants, student workers, or clinical support staff.
  • Experience with community outreach, referral development, or public engagement activities.
  • Competence in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, database, and clinic management software systems.

Required Qualifications

Earned doctorate in Couple, Marriage, and Family Therapy or closely related field. AAMFT Approved Supervisor or AAMFT Approved Supervisor Candidate status. Minimum of two years of college-level teaching experience, preferably at the graduate level. Experience with administrative operations of a community mental health clinic, university training clinic, or similar clinical setting. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations, clinical documentation procedures, and AAMFT ethical guidelines. Demonstrated capacity to support graduate student clinical development and work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and community partners. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and customer service skills. Experience utilizing electronic patient management systems, scheduling systems, or clinical databases.

About the Department and/or College

The Department of Community, Family, and Addiction Sciences in the College of Health and Human Sciences (CHHS) at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 12-month instructor position with the Couple, Marriage, & Family Therapy Program in the Department of Community, Family, and Addiction Sciences, with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2026. We welcome applicants with strong teaching, clinical supervision, and clinic administration experience. Ideal candidates will have experience teaching at the graduate level and experience with clinical administration in a community mental health, university clinic, or similar setting. In addition, the ideal candidate will be effective working collaboratively with clinical faculty, supporting graduate students, and providing administrative oversight for client service operations and community interactions within the Texas Tech University Family Therapy Clinic (FTC). The successful candidate will contribute to the operation and continued development of the FTC through clinical administration, student support, community engagement, and coordination of clinic systems and procedures that support clinical training and service delivery.
