About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly experienced Director of Psychiatric Nursing to provide strategic, operational, and clinical leadership across our behavioral health service lines. This role supports the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and holds 24/7 responsibility for multiple psychiatric care units. The ideal candidate is a collaborative, visionary nursing leader committed to delivering exceptional patient care and developing high‑performing clinical teams.

Position Summary

The Director of Psychiatric Nursing is accountable for planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating nursing practice within assigned units. This leader ensures safe, high‑quality care; maintains clinical staff competency; oversees resource utilization; and supports organizational goals and nursing excellence.

You will serve as a role model for professional nursing practice, promote evidence‑based care, and drive continuous improvement across behavioral health services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative and clinical leadership for psychiatric nursing units.
  • Support the CNO with organizational planning, strategy, and operational oversight.
  • Oversee staffing, scheduling, resource allocation, and daily operations.
  • Ensure delivery of safe, effective, patient‑centered care in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Recruit, mentor, and evaluate nursing staff to promote professional growth and high performance.
  • Implement quality improvement initiatives and monitor clinical outcomes.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize care coordination and patient experience.
  • Maintain strong communication with nursing leadership, physicians, and executive teams.
  • Uphold hospital policies, standards of care, and best practices.
  • Serve as a visible and supportive leader, fostering a culture of safety, respect, and excellence.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Associate Degree in Nursing and bachelor's degree in a healthcare‑related field OR
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Master's degree required (MSN or related healthcare field)

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of psychiatric nursing leadership experience
  • Proven success managing clinical teams and hospital operations

Licensure & Certifications

  • Active and unrestricted RN license (state of Massachusetts)
  • Current CPR certification
  • Additional certifications as required by state regulations
