Responsibilities

The Mgr of Radiology is responsible for supervising all related activities involving Radiology/Imaging services according to the policies, procedures, philosophy and objectives of the hospital and department. Responsible for all aspects of staff personnel, environmental control, and assistance to physicians, materials and equipment, education of personnel and all administrative duties associated with the department. Coordinates patient scheduling activities with other departments and outside services. Serves as the Safety Officer for compliance purposes. Participates in obtaining qualified personnel for all areas of the Imaging department including radiology, operating rooms, computerized tomography, magnetic resonance, and ultrasound.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Supervises and directs personnel within the department of Imaging to ensure the highest quality of images with concern for patient care, safety and comfort.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable state and federal laws including radiation producing equipment and healthcare personnel.
  • Evaluates radiographs/images for technical quality.
  • Ensures Radiology/Imaging Department communication by staff personnel to promote continuity of patient care.
  • Applies policies and procedures of the hospital to ensure consistent quality of patient care.
  • Respects patients right to privacy, dignity and confidentiality.
  • Serves as Radiation Safety Officer for compliance purpose.
  • Provides a safe environment for patients and personnel.
  • Responsible for the monitoring of radiation exposure to hospital associates and other healthcare personnel who work with the x-ray producing equipment.
  • Directs all safety measures in the Radiology/Imaging Department and all other areas when portable equipment is in operation to prevent accidents, harm or any injury to patients, personnel or equipment.
  • Ensures availability of all personnel, equipment and supplies required for safe operation of the Radiology/Imaging Department.
  • Provides and controls materials, supplies and equipment needed for successful operation of the Radiology/Imaging Department.
  • Responsible for the care and cleanliness of radiology equipment and supplies to ensure good, safe working condition.
  • Evaluates need of new or different items in regard to present and new trends and needs of the department.
  • Controls inventory used in Radiology/Imaging Department.
  • Coordinates all required and emergent equipment maintenance service.
  • Provides increased educational and technical opportunities for all staff members.
  • Provides informative orientation program for new employees in Radiology/Imaging Department.
  • Ensures staff attends in-service programs and other continuing education activities.
  • Provides opportunities of challenge and learning for staff to increase knowledge and expertise.
  • Plans, controls, directs and coordinates all administrative duties for the proper functioning of the Radiology/Imaging Department.
  • Completes evaluations and proficiency reports on Radiology/Imaging personnel.
  • Counsels employees as needed and makes recommendations for salary adjustments, promotions, and/or termination.
  • Coordinates purchasing of equipment and supplies to provide optimum care within the budged allowance.
  • Communicates with the hospital COO/CFO to evaluate the practices of the department with respect to the philosophy, objectives, policies and procedures of the hospital.
  • Responsible for scheduling and assignments of personnel to increase efficiency of Radiology/Imaging area.
  • Responsible for maintaining and providing all Radiology/Imaging charges.
  • Assist facility marketing efforts through relationship building with referring physicians.
  • Continually analyzes and evaluates all Radiology/Imaging services rendered to improve quality of patient care.
  • Participates in Quality Improvement process and activities including the areas of safety, infection control, patient satisfaction, documentation, compliance with OSHA standards, and risk management.
  • Establishes and maintains Quality Control records and Quality Assurance for Radiology/Imaging Department as required.
  • Initiates and implements procedural changes for the purpose of Quality Improvement.
  • Performs all duties required of a Radiology/Imaging technologist.
  • Performs related duties as deemed necessary.

Qualifications

License or Certification:

  • Maintains current registration with the ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists)
  • Maintains CEUs (Continuing Education Units) as required by ARRT.
  • Maintains certification in CPR.
  • Maintains regular attendance.
  • Demonstrates cooperative work attitude toward and with co-associates, management, patients, visitors and physicians.
  • Good communication skills.

Total Education, Vocational Training, and Experience:

  • Graduate of an accredited AMA-approved program in Radiology Technology.
  • Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
  • Minimum 5 years experience.
  • Demonstrates ability to function in managerial position. (Leadership qualities.)
  • Effective communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Proficient in at least (3) modalities and registry preferred in at least 1 specialty (i.e. MRI, CT, Ultrasound,), or PACS.
