Director, PX, GWE, R&D Workplace Strategy Lead

Role Summary

The Global Workplace Experience (GWE) team is seeking a Director, R&D Workplace Strategy Lead, to lead the strategic planning function that enables Pfizer's global Research & Development (R&D) real estate portfolio to flex and evolve alongside a rapidly changing scientific and business landscape.

Partnering directly with Global Workplace Experience leadership and R&D Leadership Teams across the globe, this role shapes long-range site and portfolio strategies that balance scientific innovation needs, capital investment priorities, space utilization and lab design & planning.

As a people leader, the Director manages a team of up to three (3) direct reports and serves as a key voice in shaping the strategic framework that guides GWE's support of R&D through portfolio planning, site master planning, space planning, laboratory design and strategic capital investment planning.

Given the breadth and complexity of Pfizer's global R&D footprint, this role requires the ability to navigate ambiguity, influence senior science and business leaders, and drive alignment across a highly matrixed, global organization.

Role Responsibilities

Strategic Planning

• Partner with GWE Vertical Leads, Therapeutic Area leadership, Science Platform leads, and R&D Site Leadership Teams to develop and implement global and regional R&D site strategic plans aligned with company strategy and GWE's overall objectives, optimizing space utilization, space planning, real estate assets, workplace facilities, and operations globally.

• Own the strategic framework that guides real estate portfolio planning, site master planning, lab design and planning, and capital plan execution across Pfizer's global R&D real estate portfolio.

• Identify opportunities for cost savings, operational efficiency improvements, and sustainability initiatives within the global R&D real estate portfolio.

• Analyze market trends and industry best practices to identify opportunities for improvement and innovation across the R&D real estate portfolio.

• Represent R&D site and portfolio priorities in the development and governance of the global GWE capital plan, influencing prioritization of capital investment.

Project Management

• Lead and oversee cross-functional project teams to execute strategic initiatives from conception to completion, ensuring adherence to timelines and budget constraints.

• Oversee development of project plans, timelines, and budgets, translating complex, cross-functional R&D scenarios and proposals into scheme estimates, cost phasing, and scoping solutions for senior leadership review.

• Coordinate with internal stakeholders, external vendors, and consultants to deliver high-quality outcomes.

• Oversee and execute other strategic projects as directed by the GWE R&D Leadership Team (LT) and R&D Leadership.

Facility Operations Enhancement

• Collaborate with GWE Vertical Leads to identify cross-GWE areas for improvement in workplace experience and building operations that can be addressed through strategic projects.

• Implement best practices and innovative solutions to enhance the employee experience and support productivity, including collaborating with GWE's Digital Client Partner on enabling technology solutions and projects.

• Drive alignment and consistency of infrastructure, space utilization, and workplace experience strategies across a highly matrixed, global R&D organization spanning multiple regions and scientific disciplines.

Stakeholder Communication & Leadership

• Serve as a senior strategic partner and advisor to Therapeutic Area and Science Platform leaders, building trusted relationships that enable proactive, long-range real estate and space planning decisions.

• Communicate strategic initiative updates, milestones, and outcomes to key stakeholders, including senior leadership and department heads both within and outside GWE; foster collaboration and alignment across departments supported by GWE.

• Provide input to the Project Management Group's PMO Lead, Sustainability Lead, Engineering Lead, and Program Managers on the development and evolution of group strategy and processes.
• Manage, mentor, and develop a team of up to three (3) direct reports, building organizational capability and ensuring high-quality, consistent delivery of strategic planning services across regions.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Architecture, Real Estate, Facilities Management, Life Sciences, or a related field.

• Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in project management, workplace strategy, or real estate/facilities portfolio planning, including experience supporting R&D, laboratory, or scientific environments and enabling technology initiatives.

• Proven experience in strategic planning, project management, and real estate/facilities management within a highly matrixed, global organization.

• Demonstrated ability to lead, influence, and build consensus among senior science and business leaders, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively.

• Demonstrated leadership capabilities, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive change initiatives; proficiency in project management tools and software.

• Ability to think strategically and balance competing priorities across diverse R&D therapeutic areas, science platforms, and global sites.

• Ability to develop, implement, and govern real estate/portfolio strategies on a global scale.

• Strong understanding of biotech/pharmaceutical R&D real estate needs and capabilities, including laboratory and scientific space considerations.

• Knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry best practices in real estate and facilities management.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Business Administration, Real Estate, Architecture, Life Sciences, or a related field.

• Prior people-management experience at a Manager or Director level within a global real estate, workplace experience, or facilities function.

• Demonstrated experience guiding prioritization of global capital planning and spend within a life sciences or R&D environment.

• Deep knowledge of pharmaceutical/biotech drug development processes and how they inform facility and space strategy.

• Experience partnering directly with scientific/technical leadership (e.g., Therapeutic Area Heads, Platform Leads) on real estate strategy.

• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate ambiguity and address complex, cross-functional challenges.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Primarily office-based role requiring use of standard office equipment and digital collaboration tools. Requires travel to R&D sites and periodic walkthroughs of office, laboratory, facility, and project environments. Must demonstrate sound judgment, analytical thinking, stakeholder influence, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, matrixed global organization.

NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

Ability to travel globally (approximately 25–30%) to R&D sites and regional offices as needed. Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate collaboration and decision-making across multiple global time zones.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $162,900.00 to $271,500.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 20.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
