The Endocrine Society promotes breakthroughs in endocrine science and patient care through education, research, and advocacy, uniting a community of 18,000 scientists and clinicians energized by the promise of unraveling the mysteries of hormone-related conditions and diseases. As the global scientific landscape evolves and traditional association revenue models face increasing pressure, the Society is investing in new ways to support the field, reach broader audiences, and strengthen the financial foundation needed to sustain progress in public health worldwide.
As Director, Product Innovation & Business Development, you will report to and work closely with the CFO and other key leaders, playing a central role in advancing the Society’s next-generation revenue model and accelerating work that is already underway. With an established R&D fund, the Society is positioned to invest in and scale new opportunities. You will identify unmet needs across the endocrine research and clinical practice ecosystem and develop offerings—beyond traditional association products and services—that provide value to the field while generating revenue for the Society. With the Society’s committed leadership and a culture ready to test new ideas, you will have the internal support to drive this work forward.
Drawing on market research, as well as ideas originating from the Board of Directors, Executive Leadership Team, staff, and external partners, you will create, evaluate, and prioritize opportunities, developing the most promising into validated, monetizable services, products, or partnerships. You will construct well-researched business cases, test concepts through pilots, and work with internal teams and external partners to assess feasibility and impact. As a strategic partner to leadership, you will support effective decision-making with data-driven recommendations for action and facilitate the transition of approved initiatives to operational teams.
A core aspect of this role is identifying and developing relationships with potential partners to build a pipeline of future opportunities. You will assess where partnership is the right model, develop joint approaches, and structure agreements that define contributions and balance risk and return. Success in this role requires a combination of sound business judgment, disciplined project management to move ideas from concept through launch, and the ability to build credibility as a thoughtful, long-term partner in a complex global environment.
How You’ll Make an Impact
Success in your first 1–2 years will be demonstrated by establishing a strategic innovation pipeline and the processes behind it, creating a repeatable approach that consistently produces tested, revenue-generating opportunities aligned with the Society’s mission and strategic direction. Key focus areas include:
- Opportunity Identification & Revenue Strategy. Identify unmet needs across endocrinology and adjacent fields and translate them into novel revenue opportunities. Gather input from the Board of Directors, the Executive Leadership Team, staff, members, partners, and external stakeholders to surface the most promising concepts. Develop and sustain a pipeline of potential initiatives that diversify revenue and expand reach domestically and internationally.
- Executive & Board Decision Support. Serve as a strategic partner to the Executive Leadership Team, the Business Development Advisory Board, and the Board of Directors. Present data-driven options, tradeoffs, and recommendations on where the Society should focus investment.
- Pipeline & Evaluation Process. Building on the Society’s existing stage gate process, establish frameworks to evaluate, prioritize, and progress opportunities. Exercise sound business judgment to narrow a high volume of ideas to a set of viable options, with recommendations to advance, pause, or stop initiatives based on evidence, risk, and alignment with the Society’s mission and brand.
- Business Case Development & Validation. Develop rigorous business cases, including financial models, pricing approaches, cost structures, staffing needs, ROI expectations, and potential risks. Lead market testing and pilots to validate assumptions, engaging external resources as appropriate. Leverage data and emerging technologies, including AI, to support the work where appropriate.
- Strategic Partnerships. Identify and cultivate strategic partnerships, including nontraditional, cross-sector, and global collaborators. Negotiate and structure partnership models with defined roles, resource commitments, governance, and financial terms. Balance mission impact, brand reputation, risk, and return.
- Portfolio Management. Manage a dynamic portfolio of potential initiatives, advancing the strongest opportunities while continuously evaluating future options. Support the transition of approved initiatives to operational teams.
