GENERAL SUMMARY The Director of Perioperative Services is responsible for overall operation, direction and delivery of patient care that promotes safety and well-being of all patients in the Perioperative section on a twenty-four hour basis. Development of process to promote quality of service, budgetary compliance and identification of departmental direction and expectation are key elements of the role. A high level of independence in performance of the role and/or solution of problems is expected, however, demonstrated cooperation and collaboration is equally essential for successful functioning. Reports to a member of senior management. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Oversees and provides direction to the PACU, OR, and Sterile Processing departments. Maintains appropriate standards of practice and standards of care throughout Surgical Services department. Delegates to and supervises personnel, solves problems, makes decisions and develops systems and processes for successful integration and implementation. Coaches and mentors staff to ensure professional development. Serves as a resource to staff regarding specific skill demonstration, promotion of knowledge and communications. Independently carries out and is accountable for daily operations and other activities as assigned. Leads, manages, coaches, and trains a team or department, provides guidance, support, and mentors to ensure optimal performance and productivity. Oversees the recruitment, hiring, team/department orientation, performance appraisals and disciplinary actions including up to termination processes for a team or department. LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS Current Virginia state license as a Registered Nurse or Registered Nurse holding a valid Compact State license. MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Masters degree in Nursing required; may be substituted with a Masters in Business Administration, Public Health, Healthcare Administration, or related field provided the candidate also possesses a Bachelors degree in Nursing (Candidates currently enrolled in a Masters program will be considered. Individual must complete program within one year). Minimum of five years of progressive perioperative nursing leadership experience in a setting committed to collaborative decision making and team development required. Professional knowledge of areas of responsibility to include theory, practice and administration in order to direct planning and implementation. Requires analytical skills necessary to organize and oversee work of subordinates.
