Trinity Capital Inc. (Nasdaq: TRIN) is an internally managed alternative asset manager that seeks to deliver consistent returns for investors through access to private credit markets. We are looking for a highly motivated and well-networked professional to join our fast-growing organization as a Director, Originations in Phoenix, Arizona, reporting to the Sr. Managing Director, Equipment Financing. This is a high-impact role at the forefront of our success, responsible for championing deals from initial contact to funding while managing relationships with key stakeholders across the Venture ecosystem - including customers, venture capital firms, and technology bank lenders. The Director, Originations will collaborate closely with Origination and Credit team members, present regularly to the Trinity Investment Committee, and gain meaningful exposure to leading venture capital investors and a wide cross-section of emerging growth companies.

Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and well-networked professional to join our fast-growing organization. The Director, Originations will champion deals from initial contact to funding and play a critical role throughout the entire investment process. The Director, Originations will be at the forefront of our success and will manage relationships with key stakeholders throughout the Venture eco-system including customers, venture capital firms, and technology bank lenders.

Strong written and verbal communication skills are a must, as the role requires ongoing collaboration with Origination and Credit team members and regular presentations to the Trinity Investment Committee. This position offers the successful candidate exposure to leading venture capital investors, and a wide cross-section of emerging growth companies.

Duties and Responsibilities

New Business Development

• Establish/maintain relationships with technology bankers, venture capital firms, and private equity firms, as well as venture capital and private equity-backed technology companies.
• Identify potential new investment prospects, perform initial review of business opportunities and present viable opportunities to the Investment Committee for consideration.
• Evaluate potential investment opportunities including modeling of expected payments and other economic outcomes such as warrants and prepayment fees.
• Grow our broker and syndication relationships as well as develop and execute new strategies to pursue Lower Middle Market business.

Negotiations

• Assist in drafting initial rating sheets, executive summaries, and term sheets.
• Negotiate with prospective portfolio company management or venture capital investors, as well as other third parties to finalize signed term sheets.

Credit

• Assist the Credit team with research, conduct interviews of company management, financial sponsors, industry participants, and the company's customers/clients.
• Serve as the primary interface and deal "champion" for the company's management.
• Work closely with the Credit team on the drafting of executive summaries for initial approval, and with Investment Underwriting Reports for final Investment Committee review and approval.
• Work with credit to assess new opportunities and request additional materials during credit review process as needed to complete term sheet approval memo.
• Collaborate with Origination and Credit teams to structure initial term sheet.

Experience

• Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, finance, international business, or related discipline preferred.
• 8+ years in commercial banking, venture capital, equipment finance, private equity or leveraged finance with a technology industry focus.
• Experience in a sales role sponsoring deals throughout the lifecycle (deal structuring, pre and post investment portfolio management, etc.).
• Experienced with the credit risks associated with a wide variety of industries, including software, e-commerce, healthcare services, semiconductors, and more.
• Demonstrates a high level of achievement in deal origination, deal closings and realized investments.
• Possesses a network of contacts within the venture capital ecosystem.
• Knowledgeable in senior debt, asset-based financing, equipment leasing, subordinated or mezzanine debt and/or leveraged buyouts.
• Proficient at reviewing and understanding financial statements.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office required; experience with Salesforce is a plus.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit, stand, talk, utilize a computer, and read computer screens for extended periods of time
• Maintain consistent, repetitive motion for data entry (typing/clicking)
• Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
