JOB GOAL

The Director of Teaching and Learning provides strategic leadership for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of curriculum, instruction, and assessment across the district. This role oversees a team of content specialists and leads the design and delivery of high-quality professional learning to ensure all educators are equipped to meet the diverse needs of students. The Director collaborates with school and district leaders to promote instructional excellence, equity, and student achievement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Instructional Leadership

  • Develop and implement a cohesive vision for high-quality teaching and learning aligned with district goals and state standards
  • Lead district-wide initiatives to improve instructional practices and student outcomes
  • Monitor and support the implementation of curriculum and instructional frameworks across all schools
  • Use data to inform instructional decisions and drive continuous improvement

Curriculum & Assessment

  • Oversee the development, review, and alignment of curriculum across all content areas and grade levels
  • Ensure instructional materials and assessments are standards-aligned and research-based
  • Guide the development and implementation of formative and summative assessment systems
  • Collaborate with teams to analyze student performance data and adjust instructional strategies

Professional Learning

  • Design and implement a comprehensive, multi-year professional development plan for all instructional staff
  • Lead and coordinate district-wide professional learning opportunities, including workshops, coaching, and learning communities
  • Support school leaders in building site-based professional learning systems
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of professional development initiatives and adjust based on feedback and outcomes

Team Leadership

  • Supervise and support a team of content specialists across subject areas
  • Build leadership capacity within the Teaching and Learning team
  • Facilitate collaboration among specialists to ensure coherence and alignment across disciplines from Pre-K to 12 grade-levels.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching

Collaboration & Communication

  • Partner with principals and district leaders to support school improvement efforts
  • Engage stakeholdersincluding teachers, families, and community membersin instructional initiatives
  • Communicate clearly and consistently about curriculum, instruction, and professional learning priorities

Equity & Innovation

  • Promote equitable instructional practices that meet the needs of all learners
  • Support the integration of technology and innovative practices into teaching and learning
  • Stay current with educational research and best practices to inform district initiatives

OTHER DUTIES

  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Chief of Academics.
  • Coordinates long-range planning activities to support the Strategic Plan.
  • Leads the Oklahoma Teacher Empowerment Program implementation

LENGTH OF CONTRACT: Two hundred and forty (240) contract days.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Chief of Academics in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policies and state law.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in the area of curriculum and/or administrator or other relevant field required.
  • Three (3) years as a building principal preferred
  • Three (3) years as a certified teacher in a school building preferred.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others, demonstrate self-discipline and initiative, and follow state and district guidelines.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid or eligible to receive the Oklahoma Standard Principal Certification

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Duties are performed in an office, in schools, district facilities, and wherever the business of school oversight is to be conducted. The position requires occasionally working evenings, nights, and some weekends. At times, overnight travel is required. Must be knowledgeable of and physically able to operate a variety of equipment, including a personal computer. Must possess a valid driver's license and be physically able to operate a motor vehicle. Work usually requires walking and standing. Requires the ability to talk, hear, and communicate effectively in a variety of communicative ways.
