NBAPOSN Title Working Title Director of Talent Management and Compensation Brief Position Overview

The Director for Talent Management and Compensation is responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive programs that support employee learning, performance, recruitment effectiveness, compensation analysis, and overall workforce sustainability. This position plays a central role in cultivating a high-performing, engaged, and healthy workforce by aligning talent development, employee well-being, and organizational effectiveness with institutional goals. The role serves as a strategic partner to leadership, supervisors, and campus stakeholders while also managing key systems, processes, and projects that support employee success across the full employment lifecycle. For example, this role supervises payroll operations from a Human Resources perspective, verifying that all employee data, status changes, and compensation actions are accurate, timely, and compliant with applicable policies and regulations. The Director ensures that all information submitted to Payroll is complete and correct and proactively resolves discrepancies by coordinating with internal stakeholders. Maintains strong internal controls and supports continuous improvement of payroll-related processes to enhance accuracy and efficiency.

The Director leads efforts to support employee growth, performance, well-being, and workforce effectiveness. This role designs and manages comprehensive training and development programs, including onboarding, leadership and supervisor development, technical training, and Canvas-based learning resources. The position oversees performance management processes, supports recruitment and hiring activities, conducts compensation analysis and workforce benchmarking, and leads key HR projects and system implementations. Central to the role is the integration of employee health, well-being, and engagement initiatives-leveraging data, EAP resources, and training to foster a supportive, inclusive, and high-performing workplace aligned with institutional goals.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Talent Development & Training

  • Design, coordinate, and deliver a comprehensive training and development program for employees and supervisors across the institution
  • Manage new employee orientation and onboarding programs, including development and maintenance of Canvas-based onboarding content
  • Develop and facilitate supervisor training focused on foundational management skills, policies, performance management, and employee relations best practices
  • Support management and leadership development initiatives, including succession planning, leadership competencies, and skill-building programs (e.g., Crucial Conversations, Emotional Intelligence)
  • Coordinate technical and role-specific training by identifying subject matter experts and leveraging platforms such as LinkedIn Learning for scheduled training sessions
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve HR and training Canvas classrooms and digital learning resources
  • Plan and coordinate institution and system-specific training and communication efforts, including town halls and information sessions related to benefits, legislative updates, policy changes, and required compliance or legal trainings

Employee Health, Well-Being, and Engagement

  • Lead and support employee health, well-being, and belonging initiatives that promote resilience, engagement, and a positive workplace culture
  • Partner with Employee Assistance Program (EAP) providers to promote mental health resources, training opportunities, and preventative support for employees and supervisors
  • Utilize employee survey data and institutional metrics to identify trends related to well-being, engagement, workload, and organizational climate, and recommend improvement strategies
  • Collaborate with HR colleagues and campus partners to integrate well-being considerations into onboarding, training programs, leadership development, and performance management
  • Develop educational resources and training for supervisors on supporting employee well-being, managing burnout, and fostering inclusive and supportive work environments

Performance Management

  • Coordinate and support the annual performance review process, including tracking completion, providing guidance to supervisors, and ensuring consistency across divisions
  • Provide consultation and training to supervisors on effective performance management practices, including setting expectations, providing ongoing feedback, and conducting productive one-on-one meetings
  • Oversee position description updates and tracking to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with compensation and performance expectations
  • Support continuous improvement of performance management systems and tools

Recruitment & Hiring Support

  • Provide oversight and support for the recruitment process to ensure consistency, efficiency, and compliance with institutional and system requirements
  • Train and support search committees on equitable, inclusive, and effective hiring practices
  • Coordinate the collection, organization, and tracking of recruitment materials and documentation • Lead or support the implementation and ongoing use of recruitment systems, including NeoEd, and provide training and guidance to users
  • Train Selection Committee
  • Support Hiring Manager and Selection Committee
  • Provide recruitment compensation analysis and approval

Compensation Analysis & Workforce Analytics

  • Conduct compensation analysis using CUPA and other relevant market data to support pay equity, workforce planning, and informed decision-making
  • Support MUS contract increase approval processes and compensation-related reviews
  • Analyze pay practices, job classifications, and position structures across campus to identify trends and recommend improvements
  • Prepare reports, summaries, and data visualizations to support leadership review and planning

Projects and Continuous Improvement

  • Lead and contribute to HR projects, including but not limited to:
  • Create and manage Canvas-based HR and training classrooms
  • Develop Annual HR Scorecard to track key metrics and outcomes
  • Identify opportunities to improve HR processes, systems, and employee experiences through data analysis and stakeholder feedback

Required Qualifications - Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

Minimum Qualifications

  • Five years' experience in human resources with progressive responsibility
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business Administration, Education, or a related field
  • Progressive experience in human resources, training and development, organizational development, or a related area

  • Professional HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR)
