A leadership opportunity is available for an experienced perioperative services professional to oversee a large-scale surgical program within a busy acute care hospital in Tampa. The Director of Surgical Services will provide strategic and operational leadership across multiple perioperative departments, ensuring efficient workflows, outstanding clinical outcomes, and a positive experience for both patients and staff. This role will oversee a complex surgical operation that includes extensive robotic surgery capabilities and a high volume of procedures across multiple specialties.
Position Overview
The Director is responsible for the overall performance, quality, and efficiency of Surgical Services, including the Operating Room, Women's Center Operating Room, Sterile Processing Department, and Case Cart operations. This leader will work closely with physicians, nursing leadership, and hospital administration to support growth initiatives, optimize resources, and maintain the highest standards of patient care and safety.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the day-to-day operations of Surgical Services across multiple perioperative departments
• Oversee staffing, scheduling, budgeting, resource allocation, and operational performance
• Support a high-volume surgical program with significant robotic surgery activity
• Ensure efficient coordination between the Operating Room, Sterile Processing, and Case Cart teams
• Partner with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and hospital leadership to improve surgical throughput and patient outcomes
• Monitor key performance indicators and implement process improvement initiatives
• Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
• Support recruitment, retention, coaching, and professional development of leadership and staff
• Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and organizational policies
• Drive initiatives focused on patient safety, quality outcomes, and operational excellence
Qualifications
• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license required
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
• Significant leadership experience within Surgical Services required
• Previous Director-level experience strongly preferred
• Experienced Surgical Services Managers from large hospitals with extensive robotics programs will also be considered
• Demonstrated success leading high-volume perioperative operations
• Experience overseeing Sterile Processing and Case Cart operations
• Strong knowledge of perioperative workflows, quality standards, and surgical services best practices
