The Director of Student Engagement will provide for the orientation and successful transition of first-year and transfer students at Grand View University, including Welcome Week, New Student Orientations, and any other campus wide event needing Student Life promotion. They will provide leadership and resources for the development and success of Grand View University Leadership Program as well as Clubs and Organizations, including training and recruitment of student leaders and members and the development of vocational connections for the Clubs and Organizations, as well as faculty and staff advisors.
Essential Functions of Job:
Plan, coordinate and promote programs for parents and new students including first-year and transfer students.
Create and update (twice a year) online orientation.
Chair committees charged with planning orientations and registrations for all students and lead new student events to ensure that students receive the information and attention needed for a successful experience at Grand View University.
In collaboration with personnel in GV Complete, Office of Admissions, Registrar Office, Viking Central, and others, lead efforts to deliver the Student Orientation/Registration in Summer and Winter.
Work with Enrollment Management and Marketing on communication and promotional materials for New Student Orientation.
Provide oversight of GVU's Student Leadership Program. Help recruit, hire, and train Grand View University student leaders. Develop curricula and assessment protocols for the student leadership program. Train and supervise View Crew and View Crew members & Coordinators, Student Leadership Team members.
Work collaboratively with administration to create policy and procedures for Grand View College Clubs and Organizations.
Work collaboratively with students on development of new clubs/organizations on Grand View's campus.
Support/train faculty and staff serving as advisors to clubs and organizations
Collaborate with Viking Council to support clubs and organizations.
Oversee the entrance and maintenance of accurate records of student leader information for leadership teams and clubs and organizations in the student information system (Colleague).
Update the Student Engagement and New Student Programs webpages as needed.
Serve as a conduct hearing officer.
Be an active and vital team member in other student life efforts as part of the Student Life Office.
In addition to serving on institutional committees, collaborate with various campus positions to identify causes of attrition and advancing retention initiatives at Grand View University.
Supervise the Student Involvement Graduate Assistant.
Direct the AmeriCorps Grant and manage part-time and full-time grant members.
Co-Advise Vikes for Life and Advise Viking Volunteers with Student Involvement Graduate Assistant.
Participate in the on-call rotation, providing support and response coordination for student emergencies, behavioral concerns, and critical incidents while ensuring appropriate follow-up and resource connection.
Facilitate student learning and development by connecting students with community service and experiential learning opportunities that enhance engagement, leadership growth, and preparation for future career success.
Develop and sustain relationships with community partners to enhance experiential service opportunities, support mutually beneficial collaborations, and advocate for Grand View students in the broader community.
Manage all budgets related to job responsibilities.
Participate in continuing professional development.
Bachelor's Degree Required, Master's degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Education, or related field preferred.
Experience in working with college students preferred.
An understanding of college student development theory.
Two to three years of relevant experience required.
Leadership qualities including problem-solving abilities, event-planning skills, collaboration, and friendly, courteous, professional behavior required.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to express oneself effectively, both orally and in writing required.
