Director of Strategic Communications & Media

Hybrid | New York, NY

We're seeking an experienced Director of Strategic Communications & Media to lead high-impact communications initiatives that elevate organizational visibility, strengthen media relationships, and support executive leadership messaging. This is an excellent opportunity for a strategic communicator who thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment and enjoys collaborating across multiple teams.  This is a 6 month+ contract role at a high profile Foundation in midtown Manhattan.  Hourly rate range $80-$110/hour.  Hybrid role - Mondays thru Thursday in office, Fridays remote.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute strategic communications plans that align with organizational priorities.
  • Lead proactive and reactive media relations, including media outreach and relationship management.
  • Draft and edit executive speeches, talking points, press releases, messaging, and other communications materials.
  • Partner with senior leadership to develop compelling messaging for internal and external audiences.
  • Identify opportunities to increase media visibility and enhance the organization's public profile.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support major announcements, initiatives, campaigns, and events.
  • Manage communications surrounding high-profile projects and respond to time-sensitive issues as needed.
  • Ensure messaging is consistent across all communication channels.
  • Monitor media coverage and evaluate communications performance to inform future strategies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of strategic communications, public relations, or media relations experience.
  • Proven success developing and executing communications strategies for complex organizations.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Strong relationships with national, business, or industry media outlets preferred.
  • Experience advising senior executives and developing executive communications.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent collaboration, organizational, and project management skills.
