Director of Specialty Medicine at Cape Cod Veterinary Specialists (CCVS)

Salary: $220,000-$245,000 + production (commensurate with experience, qualifications, and schedule)

Cape Cod Veterinary Specialists is looking for an experienced specialist board-certified in internal medicine, cardiology, neurology, ophthalmology, or dermatology, with proven leadership skills to serve as Director of Specialty Medicine. This is a high-impact role for someone who wants to help shape hospital standards, drive service growth, and improve specialist retention while continuing to provide excellent medicine.

This position works closely with the Director of Emergency Medicine, the Medical Director, and the Group Medical Director to lead clinical quality, improve consistency across services, and support a culture where specialists and their teams can thrive.

Growth on the horizon

CCVS is actively expanding our practice with plans that include:

  • Three new specialty services
  • Increased specialist support in three existing departments (internal medicine, dermatology, and radiology)
  • A 10,000 sq. ft. hospital addition

Current specialty services include:

Cardiology • Diagnostic Imaging • Surgery • Exotics • Internal Medicine • Anesthesiology • Dermatology

Planned additions expected in 2027:

Neurology • Ophthalmology • Dentistry

What you'll do

This is a leadership role that maintains a strong foundation in clinical work.

Leadership & Medical Standards

  • Provide leadership, management, and accountability for the specialist team
  • Ensure consistent standards of care across all specialty services
  • Work with hospital medical leadership to strengthen quality systems, service alignment, and clinical collaboration

Growth, Retention & Team Development

  • Support specialist engagement and retention through mentorship, clarity, and thoughtful operational structure
  • Help lead strategy, growth planning, and specialty support models
  • Collaborate cross-departmentally to improve patient flow, communication, and the referral experience

Recruiting & Representation (about 15% travel)

  • Participate in specialty recruiting, interviews, and conference/event representation

Clinical Practice

  • Keep clinical case responsibilities, spending about half your time on clinical work in your specialty

Business & Department Operations

  • Contribute to specialty departmental budgeting and specialist compensation planning
  • Support performance and resource planning while utilizing a vision focused on sustainability and lasting growth

Qualifications

Required

  • Board-certified specialist
  • DACVIM (SAIM, Neuro, Derm) • DACVR • DAVDC • DACVO

Experience

  • 3+ years post-residency in clinical small animal specialty practice
  • Managerial/leadership experience strongly preferred (medical director, department lead, mentorship lead, or equivalent)
