ANNOUNCEMENT OF ANTICPATED PROFESSIONAL VACANCY

POSITION: Director of Special Education Services

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must hold a valid WV Professional Administrative certification with Superintendent or Supervisor General Instruction endorsement. A master's degree in special education, educational leadership, or a related field, alongside prior successful administrative and special education teaching experience.

Knowledge of federal/state laws and regulations, the ability to work collaboratively with the education community, and the general public is required. Must also have a working knowledge of budgeting, grant funding and finances.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, directing and evaluating all educational programs and opportunities for individuals with disabilities which include but are not limited to children with physical, emotional, cognitive and communication disabilities for the Lewis County School System. The successful applicant will oversee and manage all special services programs county wide. Those programs include, but not limited to following programs: Special Education, Gifted, 504 plans, IDEA, Preschool, Counseling, CIS, Nurse and Title IX. The successful applicant must also oversee the budgeting, grant funding/expenditures and all finance allocations for the department. The successful applicant must ensure that Lewis County School District complies with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504 and West Virginia Policy 2419.

The successful applicant must ensure implementation of state and federal mandates, monitoring policies across all county schools. Oversee the evaluation and identification of students with disabilities or giftedness. Collaborate with district leaders to improve student achievement, graduation rates, and transitions. This position also supervises and trains special education staff. Will also assist building principals with identifying needs and procuring funding for Individualized Education Program (IEP) implementation. Oversee data collection, maintenance and submission of legally required reports. Manage conflict resolution, mediation, and due process hearings.

The successful applicant will also be responsible for managing budgets, grant allocations, and staffing ratios for assigned departmental operations. Other duties as assigned.

SALARY: Lewis County Salary Schedule applicable to degree level and experience, plus an administrative supplement.

TERM: 245 Days
