The Champion Local School District is seeking a qualified applicant for the following position:

Position:

  • Director of Special Education
  • Starting 2026/2027 School Year

Anticipated Starting Date:

  • July 27, 2026

Qualifications:

  • Valid Ohio Administrative Specialist or Supervisory license (Preferred).
  • Master's degree or higher in Educational Administration or Special Education.
  • 5+ years in special education as a teacher or administrator.
  • Expert in federal/state education law and the Ohio Improvement Process (OIP).
  • Advanced proficiency in students with disabilities (SWD) identification, IAT/MTSS, and Child Find activities.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal communication, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Training and experience in Social Emotional Learning (SEL) frameworks.
  • OTES 2.0 certified preferred
  • Successful BCII/FBI background checks.

Program Management and Compliance:

  • Lead Child Find, Child Count, and identification processes for students with disabilities.
  • Manage service delivery for resident students across district and out-of-district placements.
  • Serve as District Representative and facilitator for IEP and MFE meetings.
  • Ensure all actions align with Board of Education policies and state/federal mandates.

Instructional Leadership and Staff Development:

  • Evaluate direct and related service staff; establish performance goals to drive growth.
  • Conduct classroom observations and provide actionable feedback to certified staff.
  • Design and facilitate in-service training on special education best practices.
  • Collaborate on department goals and the development of inclusive programming.

Data Analysis and Collaboration:

  • Analyze local report cards and assessment data to improve achievement outcomes.
  • Partner with teachers, principals, parents, and social service agencies to support student success.
  • Support the Building Level Assistances Team (BLAT) and MTSS frameworks.

Contract:

  • 199-Day Contract

Remuneration:

  • According to Board approved salary schedule
