Description
The Director of the Small Business Center is responsible for overseeing small business development functions, operating under the direction and supervision of the Vice President for Workforce Development and Continuing Education. The Director also collaborates with college employees, coordinating efforts with appropriate vice presidents and management personnel.
Detailed Work Activities
Essential Duties
- Serving as the Director of the Small Business Center Office of Robeson Community College and its affiliated business partners.
- Providing leadership for small business development program opportunities of the College in coordination with the senior administrators.
- Providing management for all grants or sponsored programs - including budgets, reports, personnel, deliverables, evaluations, etc. - assigned to the office in accordance with accepted guidelines and accounting principles of North Carolina and the funding agency/individual.
- Developing strategies for providing small business development services with local, state, and national entities.
- Fostering meaningful relationships with internal and external partners to effectively carry out the purpose of the office.
- Assisting the community college and other approved entities with small business research, counseling, workshops, seminars, and support services, as requested.
- Interpreting trends and developments in small businesses that have the potential to be of value in developing the College.
- Interpreting the mission, educational philosophy, and vision statements of Robeson Community College to the general public.
- Maintaining the integrity of the College and its related foundations.
- Representing the College professionally and handling all business affairs confidentially.
Planning
- Participating in the institutional planning process, as requested by the Vice-President.
- Researching strategic business activities related to the Small Business Center Office.
- Identifying potential services, workshops, seminars, and/or classes that would be of value or needed by Robeson Community College or its affiliated foundations.
- Planning and recommending a budget for the Small Business Center Office on an annual basis.
- Identifying and communicating appropriate supplementary programs, projects, and proposals for funding from local, state, federal and/or private sources.
Organizing
- Assisting with the development and revision of all official policies of the Robeson Community College District, as requested.
- Organizing procedures for the implementation of all official policies and regulations of the Robeson Community College District and the NCCCS related to the small business center operation.
- Organizing, planning, and consulting with internal teams/committees, Technical Advisory Committees, partner institutions and other appropriate entities to determine state-of-the-art practices, procedures, and equipment related to small business services of the College.
- Developing and recommending procedures for the operation of the Small Business Center Office.
- Coordinating the development of the Small Business Center sections of the President's Annual Report, College Catalog, and other official publications of the community college district.
Directing
- Directing the work of staff working for or assigned to the Small Business Center Office.
- Directing the development of training schedules, seminars, and/or any other educational activities for the Small Business Center Office.
- Stimulating and influencing innovation and creativity at all levels within the organization.
- Serving as a role model and advocate for small business education and services within Robeson Community College and across North Carolina.
Controlling
- Assisting with the development of Standards of Performance for all Small Business Center activities.
- Maintaining compliance with established performance standards with the North Carolina Community College System, Robeson Community College, and other entities.
- Maintaining compliance with the Fiscal Management system policies and procedures set forth for the Small Business Center.
- Developing and implementing a Performance Appraisal System for the Small Business Center in cooperation with other offices of the college.
- Implementing the Equipment Management System policies and procedures for the Robeson College District, the North Carolina Community College System, and other entities.
- Implementing Facility Management System policies and procedures for the Robeson Community College District, the North Carolina Community College System, and other entities.
Public Relations
- Maintaining intra-institution relationships with members of the Board of Trustees, administrative personnel and other employees of the college.
- Providing appropriate liaison support with the North Carolina Community College System, Robeson Community College and other relational entities.
- Collaborating with the NCCCS staff on public relations and marketing opportunities.
- Promoting the Robeson Community College with local, sate, regional, and national citizenry.
- Participating in activities that promote and enhance the college's image among its various publics.
Other
- Performing other duties as assigned by the President of Robeson Community College.
Qualifications
Education
A minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Business or a Business-Related field is required. A Masters degree in Business Administration is preferred.
Experience
A minimum of four (4) years experience in a business commerce, or finance field in a public or private setting is required.
