JOB SUMMARY: The Director of School Security is an administrative leader who oversees the strategic development, implementation and management of a comprehensive district-wide safety program. The Director ensures effective communication and alignment of all security procedures across all District buildings and operations with the primary goal of protecting staff, students and visitors by mitigating risks, directing emergency responses and ensuring regulatory compliance in a variety of complex situations.

QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor's degree and five (5) years' experience in the field of law enforcement, school security, or safety management required. If retired, the candidate must be in good standing. Work experience may be used to substitute education. Must possess or be willing to obtain a drone license.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Specific competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include:

  • Displaying technical and organizational skills
  • Handling complex and multiple assignments with accuracy, and confidentiality
  • Displaying strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with staff, students and first responders
  • Demonstrating proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability
  • Adapting to various competing demands
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and office technology systems as well as security camera and card reader access systems
  • Knowledge of school district operations and governance structures.
  • Familiarity with Connecticut educational regulations, law enforcement rules and regulations and public-sector procedures.
  • Making sound decisions on the basis of available information.
  • Adapting to changing work priorities.
