Director of Sales and Business Development

Prioritized Must-Have Skills

#1. Industry Experience (Required)

Candidates must have prior sales leadership experience within the janitorial, sanitation, paper products, facility supplies, cleaning supplies, or related distribution industries. Experience selling or managing teams that sell janitorial and sanitation products, paper goods, facility maintenance supplies, or similar wholesale/distribution product lines is strongly preferred. Candidates from unrelated industries will not be considered, as this role requires an understanding of the products, customer base, competitive landscape, and consultative sales approach common within the janitorial and cleaning supply sector.

#2. Proven Sales Leadership Experience

Extensive experience in sales leadership with a demonstrated track record of driving revenue growth, expanding market share, and consistently achieving sales targets.

#3. Team Leadership

Experience managing and developing a large team of Territory Managers and sales professionals across multiple regions.

#4. Ability to Travel

Significant travel is required.

#5. Career Stability

No more than three employers in the past ten years.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the sales strategy for assigned territories to drive revenue growth and market expansion.

  • Lead, coach, and manage a team of Territory Managers and sales professionals, ensuring alignment with company goals and performance expectations.

  • Establish accurate sales forecasts and monitor performance against targets.

  • Drive accountability and continuous improvement through performance management and metrics tracking.

  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships with a focus on long-term partnerships and customer satisfaction.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with corporate functions, distribution teams, and operational groups to ensure exceptional customer service and customer retention.

  • Identify and implement programs, tools, and processes to improve sales effectiveness and operational efficiency.

  • Analyze market trends, customer needs, and the competitive landscape within the janitorial, sanitation, paper products, and facility supply markets to inform strategy.

  • Ensure consistent execution of company initiatives, sales processes, and best practices across the sales organization.

  • Develop and execute consultative sales strategies tailored to distributors, end users, and key accounts within the janitorial and cleaning supply industry.

  • Strengthen relationships with customers and channel partners while identifying opportunities for growth and market penetration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or a related field required; MBA preferred.

  • Extensive sales leadership experience with a proven track record of revenue growth and target achievement.

  • Prior sales leadership experience within the janitorial, sanitation, paper products, facility supplies, cleaning supplies, or related distribution industry is required.

  • Experience selling or managing teams responsible for janitorial and sanitation products, paper goods, facility maintenance supplies, or similar wholesale/distribution product lines is strongly preferred.

  • Strong people leadership skills with experience building, managing, and developing high-performing teams.

  • Experience leading a large group of Territory Managers across multiple regions.

  • Deep understanding of the products, customer base, competitive landscape, and consultative sales approach common within the janitorial and cleaning supply sector.

  • Industry experience in distribution and wholesale environments required.

  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and influence internal and external stakeholders.

  • Strategic thinker with strong execution capabilities.

  • Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.

  • Experience working with or competing against major industry players within the janitorial, sanitation, paper products, and facility supplies markets.

  • Ability to travel extensively.
