DIRECTOR OF SACRED MUSIC Full-Time Position (40 Hours/Week)
Salary Range $55,000-$65,000 (commensurate with education and experience)

St. Thomas More Catholic Church is seeking a Director of Sacred Music to enrich our liturgical life through prayerful, beautiful, and engaging sacred music. ABOUT THE ROLE The Director of Sacred Music serves as the principal musician of the parish, working closely with the Pastor and parish leadership to plan, coordinate, and lead music for all liturgical celebrations. The ideal candidate appreciates the richness of the Church's musical heritage while also drawing from worthy contemporary Catholic repertoire to foster active participation in worship. RESPONSIBILITIES - Prepare and lead music (including cantoring as needed) for:
- Two weekday Masses
- Three weekend Masses
- Special liturgies including Holy Days, Stations of the Cross, Eucharistic Adoration, Penance Services, and other parish celebrations
- Play our 1997 Berghaus pipe organ (1,959 pipes, 37 ranks, 3 manuals) and Yamaha C3 ES grand piano
- Direct and rehearse the Adult Choir, Children's Choir, and Men's Schola
- Recruit, mentor, and develop cantors, choir members, and instrumentalists
- Plan seasonal and sacramental music from the breadth of the Church's sacred musical tradition
- Meet with families to plan music for weddings and funerals (separate compensation provided)
- Maintain the parish music library, instruments, and music resources
- Prepare worship aids to encourage congregational participation
- Participate in parish staff meetings and collaborate with the parish team in support of our mission
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR - Proficiency in organ, piano, choral conducting, and vocal leadership
- Knowledge of Catholic liturgy and sacred music
- An appreciation for both the Church's musical heritage and quality contemporary Catholic music
- A collaborative leader who enjoys building and growing parish music ministries
- Basic Diploma in Music Ministry from Sacred Heart Major Seminary (or equivalent), or willingness to obtain one during employment
- A strong understanding of the Ministry of Presence and a desire to serve the parish community
