Director of Rowing
Reports to: Director of Athletics
Classification: exempt/part-time 0.6 FTE
Position Summary:
The Director of Rowing is a 10.5 (mid-August – June 30) month position responsible for the Head coaching responsibilities of the Winsor crew team, co-management of the Winsor-Belmont Hill Boathouse, and development of the rowing program. The Director position is a part-time, 10.5-month position reporting to the Director of Athletics. This position has variable hours in and out of season, which average to 24 hrs/week, and works to the school calendar.
Essential Functions:
Coaching
Head coach of the fall and spring seasons of rowing, approximately from the end of August through mid-November and early March through mid to end of June
Leads and directs the development of the rowing program
Develops practice plans for a wide range of skill abilities, from beginner to more experienced rowers
Identifies and promotes examples of best practice that will increase participation and membership
Offer optional training for all team members during the school’s spring break
Designs a winter training program & meets with crew athletes to discuss their individual training programs and development
Collaborates closely with the Director of Athletics to ensure rowing program goals are in alignment with the athletic program
Operations
Oversees the management and safety of the Winsor boathouse facility in conjunction with the Director of Athletics and the Director of Facilities
Ensures that the racing shells & launches are in safe and proper working order; including ordering parts, sourcing gas, and performing any small repairs and working with the Director of Athletics and Facilities on larger maintenance and repairs
Transports racing shells and equipment to all regattas and to and from Winsor for storage
Assists with the management and hiring of all Rowing Assistant Coaches
Schedules all team races and regattas and directs the home races on the Charles River
Qualifications and Skills
Preferred experience coaching at the collegiate, club, and/or international rowing level
Preferred experience driving and trailing crew racing shells
Current certification for Adult CPR and AED training (If not currently certified, you will need to be certified)
Bachelor’s degree
Appropriate personal and professional boundaries
Demonstrated commitment to community and inclusion work
Handles confidential information in accordance with school policies, HIPAA-related considerations, and employment law
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends, adjusting as needed for weather and school events
Must have a valid state driver’s license
A passion for coaching and for the community life of schools
A deep understanding of best practices in coaching
The ability to facilitate difficult conversations with students, colleagues, and families
A confident, collaborative professional who listens well, remains flexible, and thinks forward

Compensation and Benefits
This is a benefits-eligible position with an anticipated salary range of $50,000 to $54,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
