Under limited supervision, the Director of Risk Management provides expert investigative oversight and leadership for BHDD-OIDD. This position directs the agencys response to investigations within OIDD-operated Intermediate Care Facilities for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICF-IID), also known as Regional Centers, and leads a team of investigators and consumer advocates. Key priorities include developing a comprehensive training manual for Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation (ANEs) that ensures all staff are fully equipped to identify and respond accordingly, as well as tracking systemic incident trends, and providing data-driven reports to Agency leadership to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents.
This position is located at the BHDD-OIDD Central Office in Cayce, SC, but will require frequent travel to Regional Centers across the state that are located in Clinton, Columbia, Florence, Hartsville, and Summerville.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
A Bachelors Degree in Human Services or a related field and three (3) years of experience in administration, organizational behavior/change and supervision, teaching and/or training. A valid drivers license.
Preferred Qualifications
A Masters Degree in Human Services or a related field. Experience conducting investigations, compliance monitoring, or other related activities in the developmental disability service area. Substantial knowledge and experience of federal and state laws and regulations, as well as Agency and Office policies, procedures, and directives pertaining to the operation and oversight of BHDD-OIDD Operated Regional Centers, Community Based Programs for Individuals with Intellectual and Related Disabilities, and Intermediate Care Facilities (IID-ICF). Ability to conduct a variety of monitoring and oversight activities and provide written findings, reports, and recommendations for improvements. Ability to analyze performance data from Regional Centers and Community Based Programs, identify issues, and provide technical assistance. Knowledge and investigative skills required to conduct reviews of abuse, neglect, exploitation (ANEs), as well as critical incidents, and deaths.

Immunization: If this position requires the applicant to work directly with consumers of The South Carolina Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, Office of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, tuberculosis (TB) skin or blood testing must be completed prior to beginning employment. All new employees who are healthcare providers are required to provide documentation of immunity or be immunized against measles, mumps, rubella, pertussis, Varicella and Hepatitis B prior to beginning employment.
