Position Summary
The Director of Respiratory Therapy leads and manages all respiratory care services within the SNF, ensuring high-quality patient care, regulatory compliance, and efficient departmental operations. This role collaborates closely with nursing, medical staff, and administration to support residents with acute and chronic cardiopulmonary conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily respiratory therapy operations, including staffing, scheduling, and workflow optimization
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and facility regulations (CMS, OSHA, infection control standards)
- Develop, implement, and monitor respiratory care plans (oxygen therapy, ventilator support, aerosol treatments, trach care)
- Supervise, train, and evaluate respiratory therapy staff; lead hiring and performance management
- Collaborate with physicians, nursing leadership, and interdisciplinary teams on care planning and outcomes
- Maintain accurate documentation and ensure timely charting in EMR systems
- Manage department budget, equipment procurement, and maintenance
- Monitor quality indicators, reduce hospital readmissions, and lead performance improvement initiatives
- Ensure proper infection prevention and control practices are followed
- Provide education to staff, residents, and families on respiratory care
