Overview

Our client in the real estate development space is seeking a Director of Recruiting & Human Resources to lead all talent acquisition and people operations functions for a growing development firm overseeing a landmark entertainment and tourism complex. This individual will serve as the day-to-day point of contact for executive search partners, candidates, and internal stakeholders, while building out the HR infrastructure needed to support the organization through its multi-year development phase and into long-term operations.

Key Responsibilities

Lead all recruiting activities for the organization, including sourcing, screening, and managing candidates for executive, operational, and project-based roles. Serve as the primary liaison with external recruitment agencies and search partners, managing candidate pipelines and ensuring a high-quality hiring experience.

Partner closely with the Founder and CEO on workforce planning, organizational design, and hiring priorities aligned with the construction timeline and eventual operational launch of the complex. Develop and implement scalable HR policies, employee handbooks, onboarding processes, and performance management frameworks suitable for an early-stage organization.

Oversee benefits administration, including the company's 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision program, as well as the mandatory vacation benefit and 401k plan. Manage payroll coordination, compliance with federal and Tennessee state employment laws, and all employee documentation.

Build and maintain relationships with local workforce development organizations, training programs, and educational institutions in Shelby County to support future hiring pipelines for the complex's job training and operational components. Handle employee relations matters with discretion and professionalism.

Early Priorities (First 90–180 Days)

Build out core HR infrastructure including handbook, policies, and onboarding workflows. Establish recruiting processes for project-based and permanent hires. Develop community partnerships in Shelby County to support future workforce pipelines.

Requirements

Essential Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7 years' experience in recruiting, human resources, or talent acquisition
  • At least 3 years in a senior or director-level HR role, ideally within a small or growing organization
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; or equivalent demonstrated experience
  • Demonstrated full-cycle recruiting experience across executive, professional, and operational roles
  • Strong working knowledge of federal and Tennessee employment law, benefits administration, and payroll compliance
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact confidently with executives, candidates, and external partners
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and modern ATS / HRIS platforms
  • Self-starter comfortable building HR functions from the ground up in a lean environment
  • Must be able to work on-site at the company's East Memphis offices; this role is not remote-eligible

Desired Qualifications

  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification
  • Prior experience in real estate, hospitality, entertainment, or construction sectors
  • Familiarity with Shelby County workforce development resources and local talent networks
  • Experience supporting an organization through a major growth or launch phase

Benefits

$95,000 – $130,000 per annum, commensurate with experience.
