Director of Quality

Location: Plainview, NY (Onsite)

About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Director of Quality to lead and scale a high-performing quality organization within a well-established aerospace manufacturing environment. This leadership role oversees a team of up to 50 professionals and is responsible for driving quality strategy, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives across the organization. This is a succession-driven opportunity due to an upcoming retirement, offering strong visibility and the ability to shape the future of quality operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, and manage a team of engineers, technicians, inspectors, and administrative personnel (up to 50 employees)
  • Establish, maintain, and enforce quality systems to ensure compliance with customer requirements and industry standards (AS9100, FAA, etc.)
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customers regarding quality compliance, audits, and issue resolution
  • Drive root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA) to resolve quality issues
  • Collaborate with Purchasing and Supply Chain to monitor and improve supplier quality and performance
  • Track, analyze, and report quality metrics to executive leadership; recommend improvements
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste, improve efficiency, and strengthen quality culture
  • Oversee First Article Inspection (FAI) processes (AS9102) and participate in Material Review Board (MRB)
  • Ensure compliance with FAA regulations, including certification and Parts Manufacturing Approval (PMA)
  • Develop and manage department budgets and resources
  • Support internal and external audit readiness and execution

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical or engineering discipline (BSEE preferred)

  • 10+ years of quality assurance experience, including progression into leadership roles

  • Strong background in aerospace manufacturing

  • Direct experience with FAA regulations, certification, and PMA processes

  • Proven experience with:

  • Root cause analysis & corrective actions

  • Quality systems (AS9100 or similar)

  • Team leadership and development

  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with supplier quality and vendor performance management
  • Knowledge of First Article Inspection (AS9102) and Material Review Board (MRB)
  • Experience supporting or leading quality audits
  • Professional certifications such as CQE, CQA, or similar

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $72.00 - $85.00/hr.
