The Director of Purchasing is responsible for the strategic sourcing and procurement of all primary and secondary packaging components through the approved supply base to support manufacturing operations. This role analyzes packaging requirements and supply markets to develop high-quality, cost-competitive sourcing strategies aligned with company objectives.
The Director of Purchasing leads supplier negotiations, establishes purchase contracts and releases, and ensures supplier on-time performance and compliance. This position utilizes SAP and operates in accordance with company business processes and standards while collaborating cross-functionally to support current and future operational needs.
Develop and execute procurement strategies to ensure supply continuity, cost efficiency, and quality performance
Utilize SAP-based purchasing tools to procure all packaging components
Maintain accurate system data including pricing, terms, and supplier information
Provide forecasts to suppliers and maintain frequent communication with approved suppliers
Lead negotiation efforts across the full packaging portfolio
Create, manage, and maintain purchase contracts and release schedules
Ensure supplier on-time delivery and compliance with contractual obligations
Verify three-way invoice matching and resolve invoice discrepancies
Conduct supplier visits as needed to support performance, quality, and relationship management
Partner closely with Production, Quality, and Research & Development teams to ensure materials meet operational and future product requirements
Collaborate with Sales and Marketing to understand product demand and align procurement plans accordingly
Maintain compliance with internal purchasing policies and standards
Associate Degree from an accredited college or university with 5+ years of purchasing and planning experience in packaging or a related field
OR
Bachelor s Degree from an accredited college or university with 3+ years of purchasing and planning experience in packaging or a related field
SAP proficiency (required)
Microsoft Office Suite proficiency (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Ability to read and interpret supplier agreements and related documentation
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to effectively communicate with suppliers, cross-functional teams, and management
Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical procurement and planning scenarios
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to interpret data, reason logically, and resolve practical issues in a fast-paced environment
