The Director of PRS-CHW Training & Apprenticeships supports Rhode Island College's Institute for Education in Healthcare (IEH), established to advance partnerships addressing workforce needs across the healthcare continuum. This role leads implementation of a $2.3M HRSA-funded initiative to strengthen integrated primary and behavioral healthcare through workforce development, including student training and apprenticeships.

The Director is responsible for establishing and managing the HRSA PRS-CHW Workforce Development Program; serving as liaison among RIC, HRSA, community partners, and apprentices; and ensuring effective program planning, coordination, and evaluation. Working closely with the Executive Director, the position oversees training activities, monitors grant deliverables, facilitates partner communication, and supports participant success by identifying and addressing barriers to retention and program outcomes.

Primary Purpose

The Director of PRS-CHW Training & Apprenticeships plays a critical role in establishing the HRSA PRS-CHW Workforce Development Program. This position is responsible for the following tasks: liaison between RIC, HRSA, apprentices, and community sites, and support for mentors of apprentices. The Director of PRS-CHW Training & Apprenticeships serves as a liaison between industry partners and state-federal agencies, and RIC departments in the planning, development, and implementation, oversight of all grant deliverables, including evaluation.

Essential Duties

  • Serve as the liaison between RIC and the Community Sites by providing weekly communication and coordination among practice sites, trainees and apprenticeship partners.
  • Support IEH Coordination of training for apprenticeship cohorts, including participation in CHWARI meetings.
  • Assist the Executive Director is the oversight of the project.
  • Assist the Executive Director in monitoring grant activities and communicating expectations and deliverables related to outcomes to partners and apprentices.
  • Provide oversite and support for monthly integrated team meetings to process placement site experiences, successes, and needs.
  • Participate on monthly grant meetings with grant partners.
  • Monitor and inform PI/Co-PI and partners of participant-organizational conflicts, retention and care continuum obstacles due to funding, discrimination, absence of services/resources, communication obstacles.

Occasional Duties

Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director of the Institute for Education in Healthcare and the Director of the Community Health Work Association of RI.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Experience with coordinating training programs.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and implement assigned responsibilities, and work well under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work in situations requiring tact and collegiality.
  • Knowledgeable about healthcare and interdisciplinary models of care, building partnerships between higher education and employer partners, curriculum development, and implementation to support participant learning and workforce development.
  • Ability to build and manage teams.
  • Ability to participate as a team member, to understand and interpret regulations, and to adjust to change with a positive attitude.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form and to work with a variety of constituents.
  • Good computing skills including MS Office, database, statistical software, and general computer knowledge.

Required Qualifications

Education:

Master's degree in a healthcare related discipline but will consider candidates enrolled in a related graduate program with pending graduation within a 6-8 month period.

Experience:

  • Experience with apprenticeships and CHWs.
  • Experience overseeing training projects.
  • Experience supporting community-based organizations through higher education partnerships and supporting program development through higher education partnerships.

Certified Community Health Worker

Position Details

FLSA Exempt Salary Grade 3NC Full Time / Part Time Full-time Proposed Starting Salary Range $60,000-$65,000 Work Schedule

Full-Time

Monday - Friday

830 am - 430 pm

Will include evening and weekend training events both in person and online that may require the ability to flex work schedule to maintain 35-hour work week as well as remote working to support online training and data work
