Summary:

The Director of Procurement is a strategic leadership role responsible for developing and executing enterprise-wide sourcing, procurement, vendor management, and supply chain strategies across a growing portfolio of approximately 30 operating companies. Reporting to executive leadership, this individual will drive purchasing excellence, cost optimization, supplier performance, and procurement standardization while supporting the growth objectives of a private equity-backed platform.

The Director of Procurement will partner closely with operating company leadership, finance, operations, and executive stakeholders to leverage the scale of the platform, negotiate favorable supplier agreements, improve working capital, and establish procurement best practices across HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, and Generator service businesses.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

Strategic Procurement Leadership

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive procurement strategy aligned with organizational growth objectives and private equity value-creation initiatives.
  • Build and execute category management strategies for direct materials, equipment, indirect spend, and services.
  • Establish procurement governance, policies, procedures, and controls across all operating companies.
  • Identify opportunities to consolidate spend and leverage enterprise purchasing power across the platform.

Supplier and Vendor Management

  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with key suppliers and manufacturers, including major OEMs and distributors such as Lennox International.
  • Lead enterprise contract negotiations to achieve cost savings, improved service levels, and favorable commercial terms.
  • Establish supplier performance metrics and scorecards focused on quality, availability, pricing, and responsiveness. Conduct quarterly/annual vendor reviews.
  • Manage supplier risk, compliance, business continuity, and diversification strategies.
  • Negotiate and administer rebate programs (volume, growth/tier, SPIFF, and co-op), ensuring rebate dollars are tracked, reconciled, and fully captured across the platform.
  • Establish and manage preferred-vendor programs, including Vendor-Managed Inventory (VMI) and consignment arrangements at branch and warehouse locations.
  • Monitor and enforce preferred-vendor and negotiated-pricing compliance across operating companies, minimizing maverick (off-program) spend and pricing leakage.

Cost Optimization and Value Creation

  • Drive annual procurement savings initiatives and margin improvement programs.
  • Analyze spend patterns across the platform to identify sourcing opportunities and procurement efficiencies.
  • Support acquisition integration efforts by evaluating supplier agreements and implementing procurement synergies.
  • Partner with finance to improve inventory management, cash flow, and working capital performance.
  • Manage commodity and input-cost exposure (e.g., copper, steel, refrigerant, generators), including the A2L refrigerant transition, tariff impacts, and supply continuity.
  • Rationalize equipment platforms, and SKUs across brands to reduce carrying cost and standardize purchasing.
  • Evaluate and leverage group purchasing organization (GPO) / buying-group participation against the platform’s own enterprise purchasing power.
  • Capture cost recovery through warranty, core-return, and freight/logistics terms.

Cross-Platform Collaboration

  • Collaborate with operating company presidents, general managers, and operations leaders to balance local business needs with enterprise procurement objectives.
  • Lead procurement integration activities for newly acquired companies.
  • Facilitate best-practice sharing and procurement standardization across the portfolio.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership regarding market trends, pricing pressures, supply chain risks, and supplier performance.
  • Partner with marketing to manage co-op and market development funds (MDF) tied to OEM and distributor relationships.

Procurement Operations and Analytics

  • Develop procurement reporting, dashboards, and KPIs to monitor savings, compliance, supplier performance, and category spend.
  • Implement and optimize procurement systems, processes, and workflows.
  • Establish purchasing controls and approval frameworks.
  • Utilize data analytics to support strategic sourcing decisions and forecasting.
  • Ensure negotiated cost and preferred pricing flow accurately into field pricing systems and price books (e.g., ServiceTitan) so branches transact at correct, current rates.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Finance, Operations, or related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive procurement, sourcing, supply chain, or strategic sourcing experience.
  • 5+ years of experience managing enterprise sourcing initiatives.
  • Experience negotiating enterprise-level supplier agreements.
  • Strong understanding of procurement practices within construction trades, distribution, industrial services, facilities services, or related industries.
  • Demonstrated success achieving measurable cost savings and supplier performance improvements.
  • Experience managing complex stakeholder relationships across decentralized organizations.
  • Advanced analytical, financial, and negotiation skills.

Preferred

  • Experience within HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Generator, Mechanical Services, Building Services, or Industrial Distribution sectors.
  • Experience in a private equity-backed organization.
  • Multi-site or roll-up platform experience supporting acquisitions and integration activities.
  • Professional certifications such as CPSM, CPM, CSCP, or CPIM.
  • Experience with ERP, procurement, and spend analytics platforms.
