Director of Preconstruction – Low Voltage & Data Center Infrastructure

Grand Prairie, TX (Onsite, Monday–Friday)
$150,000–$180,000 Base + Performance Incentives
Full-Time

The Opportunity
We’re hiring a Director of Preconstruction to own the full preconstruction lifecycle across the company.

This is not a maintenance role—you will inherit a team of ~10 estimators across four verticals, an existing structure, and platforms (BuildingConnected and Procore Estimating) that are underutilized today. Your mandate is to build the process, enforce standards, and establish leadership discipline that transforms a group of strong individual contributors into a scalable, accountable department.

You’ll report directly to the VP of Operations and serve as the senior voice of preconstruction organization-wide.

What You Will OwnTeam Leadership
  • Direct leadership of vertical estimating leads across:
    • Mission critical / data centers
    • Healthcare
    • Aviation
    • Commercial / general construction
  • Hiring, development, and performance management of the preconstruction team as it scales
  • Building a leadership layer that drives accountability and consistency
Bid Strategy & Execution
  • Final review and approval of all estimates prior to submission
  • Bid/no-bid decision input in partnership with BD and Operations
  • Ownership of:
    • Scope writing standards
    • Exclusions strategy
    • Clarification management across all verticals
  • Oversight of GC-facing proposals and interview presentations
Process & Standards
  • Build and enforce:
    • Estimating methodologies
    • Markup standards
    • Scope templates by vertical
  • Drive structured, consistent use of Procore Estimating (templates, cost database, assemblies, divisions)
  • Establish:
    • Formal bid log
    • Win/loss tracking
    • Weekly pipeline reporting cadence (in partnership with BD)
Platform Ownership
  • Own BuildingConnected strategy and usage:
    • Bid invite triage
    • GC prequalification submissions
    • Response rate optimization
  • Ensure Procore Estimating becomes the team’s single source of truth
BD & Executive Alignment
  • Serve as the preconstruction counterpart to Business Development
  • Align pursuit strategy with market activity and GC relationships
  • Deliver weekly pipeline visibility and win-rate reporting to the VP of Operations
  • Represent the company in GC interviews and client presentations for high-value pursuits

What You BringRequired Experience
  • 8+ years in preconstruction or estimating within a specialty contractor environment
  • Experience in low voltage, structured cabling, or technology infrastructure
  • 3+ years leading estimators or preconstruction teams
  • Proven success working in a subcontractor model with general contractors
Preferred
  • Mission critical / data center project experience
  • RCDD or equivalent technical depth in structured cabling
  • Familiarity with TIA, BICSI, and standards in healthcare/aviation environments
  • Experience with BuildingConnected and Procore Estimating

Leadership Profile
  • You’ve built or rebuilt something meaningful—a process, function, or team—and can articulate how and why
  • You lead with accountability and clarity, not avoidance
  • You are a systems thinker who thrives on fixing inconsistency and scaling structure
  • You can represent the company credibly with GC preconstruction leaders and ownership groups

This Role Is Not For You If
  • You prefer hands-on estimating or individual contributor work
  • Your best days are spent doing takeoffs rather than building systems and teams
  • You lack relevant low voltage / infrastructure experience
  • You are stepping into leadership for the first time

Additional Requirements
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • No sponsorship available

Why This Role
  • True opportunity to build and scale a function, not inherit a finished machine
  • Executive visibility and influence across operations and BD
  • Strong growth pipeline in data center and critical infrastructure markets
  • Competitive compensation with performance upside
